Which company makes that one? A couple of guys here have Wevo, Siene Systems, and the Robotek shifters.

Grossly overpriced @ $1500 and not as good as the Wevo shifter @$600.
Siene is the best deal for the budget minded.

IMO the Siene Systems gate shift is the way to go. Simple install, keeps the factory parts (works w/ standard or Factory SS), and is very well priced @ $150.
Unless you are building a racecar, where the Wevo might be a good investment, simple (and cheaper in this case) is better.

I think MS Road & Race sells it.
It would seem to me that the more effective place to make the shift movement more precise would be at the transaxle (where the damage is actually done), not at the shift selector (which is simply the first link in a long, and imprecise, chain). ![]() The Wevo gateshift is the same thing, but it fits inside the transaxle. In my opinion, this is much smarter (and, as a bonus, cheaper). Note: the gateshift is not the same thing as the Wevo shifter.

Seine systems gateshift is undoubtably the best bang for the buck. Jack makes some very valid points, but as Ryan pointed out, unless you are a serious racer and also have the budget, Wevo is probably the best intermediate call....
Seine systems gate shift is simple to install and has a 30 day no ? asked return policy....try it...if you don't like it....return it. You can then step up to the Wevo system. I've had the Seine Sys. gateshift installed for over a year now and have been doing alot ox Auto-x DE's & TT's over the last 7 mos and outside of normal "visual inspections" I have not had to touch or adjust anything related to it. Good Luck !!

I think you also have to understand the different products and their applications.
The primary benefit of the Seine gate/lockout device (and the more expensive, less-functional Robotek equivalent) is not to decrease wear on the tranny, or to make the process of shifting more 'precise,' but to create a shifter which is more difficult to mis-shift, in order to prevent mechanical over-revs that destroy engines. Gate guides, like the tranny-based Wevo, or the shifter-based one pictured, are to guide shift selection with more accuracy, and -- I'm guessing -- to put less stress on the tranny components when shifts are made with less accuracy, as the chassis twists and the engine gets torqued around during high-stress use. The gates are also going to lessen the feeling of a 915 being a 'stick in a bucket.' Then there are also shifter replacements, like the Wevo, and the Rennshift, which -- mostly for racing applications -- also send more precise movements back to the tranny than the stock units are capable of, and, again, reduce the stick-in-a-bucket feel. There are really three categories we're talking about, and (confusingly) their functionality overlaps slightly. For my money, if you want to avoid the (common) occurrence of a mechanical over-rev as the result of a missed shift, the Seine device is the smartest and most cost-effective move. Beyond that, as you're tuning the high-performance shift capabilities of a car (meaning making shifting more precise under chassis-stressed, high-revving situations), then the Wevo internal gateshift, and related components (coupler, bushings, replacement shifter, etc.) are the path you're eventually going to want to follow. For a street-driven Porsche, my feeling would be that most of this stuff (outside of the Seine device) is overkill.

thanks Jack. In my case I won't need it as mine is a street car. --James

Do we have some URL's for the above listed gated-potential-shifters?

BTW, Pelican sells the Seine Systems kit, and for a little bit cheaper than Seine themselves. Another reason to get the Seine setup..

Any items like that for the 901's?
I don't think anything is going to save mine from needing its chest cracked open and having major surgery, but gate guides for the 901 might prevent the problems from happening again...

Exactly the message we try to deliver too. On a historical note, Windrush designed the shifter unit a the top of the thread. We delivered about 20 of these in 1998 early 1999.... at the same shocking and prohibitive price. We used them on both stock 915's and our XT-915, that has no syncho's and allows for clutchless upshifts. Customers of the super fast shifting XT-915 continued to encounter shifting problems that the gated shifter could not prevent. We re-visited the problem, improved our understanding of how various shifting problems are related to the architecture of the 915. After more rigorous and private testing, the internal GateShift kit was released in late 1999 - replacing the gated shifter handpiece. There is no doubt our current Wevo solutions are developed to assist with drivers who are regularly shifting at full power, max RPM, full chassis twist and full red mist. We also have countless road car customers who enjoy the extra feel and protection that any single or combination of our products create - at any rpm. The shifter at the top of the thread is certainly a cosmetic accessory, nowadays most of the funtionality it has can be achieved with Sherwood's product at 1/10th the price. Regards Hayden |
