(start by centreing the wheels) remove old wheel. prise off horn pad, and remove nut.



you're left with this



remove horn ring/indicator (repeater) cancel from bottom of old wheel

new bits to go on



place the piece from the bottom of old wheel to bottom of new hub (3 screws supplied are a little small)



cut off old small spade connector (new fitting indicates larger size) i left part of the spade there for fixing into block connector

fit new hub to column. line up repeater cancel plastic stub with repeater stalk, while keeping centre the top hole for the steering wheel - the repeater cancel was slightly off, but still works. torque hub nut to steering column (dont forget washer) to 50nm - dont have lbs to hand.



fit wheel (note the ring (see pic of all the bits) fits between wheel and hub adaptor - has a spade connector that i didnt need, but it forms the mount and earth for the horn push - mount the ring so that its male spade is on the opposite side of the wheel to the one on the horn push otherwise they may foul each other)



wiring and fittings for horn push

connect wire for horn push with a block.



fit horn push. carefully push into place and make sure clips are not binding/catching - i used a small screwdriver to very carefully push the earth wire clip in.



thats it 45 mins work.

Great job Rich--good writeup too. I put a Momo wheel on my car and its funny how such a simple job can turn into a mess (in my case anyway--I drove around without a horn and no blinker shutoff for a week...so thats what those extra parts are for).

Nice write-up. I have now been through this procedure a couple of times, and it gets easier each time. A couple more hints to go along with your article:

1) At the very beginning, remove the horn relay to better maintain the sanity of both you and your neighbors during the job.
2) Final step: Pry (or prise, if in the UK) the speedo out of the dash and rotate it such that "your" useful range of the dial is not underneath the (smaller) steering wheel rim.

Done and done!

Don't forget that some us prefer to (also) use the small spacer, besides the hub adaptor. It moves the wheel further back towards you, but (more importantly perhaps) it maintains the stock wheel's "eccentricity" ( by mounting the wheel higher, when in the straight-ahead position). This gives a bit more visual room for the instruments.

When I did mine (late at night at Matt Holcomb's place), when we installed the horn button, even with the ignition off, we woke up the neighbourhood with rampant "toot"-ing as it clipped into place.

It's amazing the transformation a good Momo makes. If I knew it was going to be as good as it is, I would have done it three years ago.

Who sells the Porsche badge for the horn button, and what were the really early (911R etc) boss's like? Did they still have the concertina plastic sheath over them, or were they (I suspect) solid?

matt, the horn push are quite readily available at suppliers - can't remember where i got mine - i think it was the wheel supplier. i have seen them on ebay as well. if you get stuck let me know and i'll try and dig out the invoice.

now that i've been using the wheel i can say that although it is heavier to use i love it.
