Rolling an engineless/trannyless 911 - okay to do?

Reluctant to ask this because it seems a dumb question. Did a search, but no juice.

The scenario is your engine and transmission are out of the car and the CV/axles are unattached at that point. Can the car be rolled (pushed) to another location (50 ft. or so) to get it out of the way without any problems? Any precautions need to be taken?

you got to string up the driveshafts or they will bind up and you could damage them. anything will do to hold them up.

Okay, then. Unless someone else adds any additional precautions, I will proceed to simply support the drive shafts and roll her away. Thanks.

Just did the same last night, except that my axles were completely removed from the car.

It just takes another couple minutes to yank the axles as yelcab mentions (unless the hardwares is frozen, BTDT). Otherwise, just string up some coat hangers to support them. Unless they are already dirty, it is also helpful to ziptie a plastic grocery bag over the axle ends. Keeps dust and dirt from contaminating the grease in your CV joints.

The stub axle must be not be loose in the rear bearings when you roll the car or you will destroy the bearings. Only roll the car with the stub axles in place and at least some decent torque holding that bearing together.

I went to the Bentley manual to understand exactly what you mean by this. Can you explain further what should be done here.
A diagram for reference (Item 5):

Make sure you are able to stop it once it starts moving.

John is correct.

DO NOT move it or roll it if the stub axle (#5 in the diagram) is out/loose. You will destroy the bearing.

For moving a car around with the axles. I make a "tube" by wrapping cardboard around the axles and then support the tube. One tube holds up both axles. Damon (Series900) told me about this trick.

and secure a rag around the CV joints to make sure the balls stay in their races. Not good to mix the balls.

Done it plenty of times. Your brakes should work fine. Make sure someone's sitting in the driver's seat to steer and brake.
