They have value to some as cores for custom valving. Maybe $10-$15 each.
Most of them end up in the trash.

Wow, I thought they'd be a little more valuable than $40....
10 * 4 = $40 It costs about $50 to have them revalved. 50 * 4 = $200 $200+$40 = $240 That's less than the cost for a pair of new fronts alone. Anyone want to tell me want I want to hear?

How many miles on the ones you changed out?
Any improvent with the new ones? My car has 89K on the original ones, just wondering if it is worth it.

George, 125k on old ones, the car feels more "solid" with the new ones. I have yet to take the car on an official spirited test drive though.
![]() I've seen posts in the past mentioning Bilstein will revalve for $50 each. I'm sure a Pelican with revalving experience will chime in.

Philip, thanks for the reply.
I am replacing my rears this weekend, the front ones hopefully I can have them re-valved.

Well I just got back my rears from Bilstein USA located somewhere in Southern California (I do not have address in front of me and paraphrasing Mick & the boys). It cost $60 a shock plus shipping. I told the rebuilder what size torsion bars I had, weight of my '72 and what application. I have yet to drive the car since putting the shocks on-- too many other winter projects pending.
On the primary thread note, I have not been able to unload my, low miles, front Boge-Bilstein HDs for love or money at swap meets or here on Pelican. Same for adjustable sport Konis. Everybody want new struts inserts, --why go through the hassle of replacing the existing struts with used struts is the logic I guess. I will hold onto my spares until I die. HTH Bill

Bilstein quotes $75 each for revalving fronts, $65 for rears. Plus you pay for any extra parts that are worn and need replacing. Plus you pay shipping both ways. And you may pay shipping a third time to get the used inserts in the first place.
There's many more used inserts being pulled out of cars than there guys needing cores for custom valving. Many would probably give used cores away for free, because the next stop is the trash. You might find someone willing to pay more. But considering all the factors above, and with street prices on new inserts in the $110 range, I'll stand by my valuation of $10-$15 each.

I could swear that Ingo had his fronts revalved for little more than $50 + shipping and they replaced everything; they were like brand new shocks.

I paid $115 each for new bilstien front sport inserts last year. Hard to justify buying used ones and having them rebuilt for that price unless you are going for custom valving like Dr. Ryan said.
