pulse generator wire

I just received my "green wire" from PP. the one I received is about 3" long and does not look like it will work with my 83 Euro SC motor. Is there a longer one available? I don't think mine has a connector in the line except for the one that plugs in the distributor. I need to look closely at things tonight. any insight anyone?

Thanks
John Brasfield

John,

There has been plenty of discussion about the green coax ...

I believe the replacement cable for your application is around $200.

As I see it, there are two solutions to your current situation without spending an additional $200 ...

1. Cut your existing green coax back, assuming that there is 'good' non-cracked insulation in the vicinity where the 3" pigtail would need to connect to the 2-pin Bosch connector. Acquire mating Bosch [it is a generic VW, Mercedes, et al part] connector housing, and the 0.110" Faston connectors ... cut, strip, and crimp & solder the Faston connector pins to existing green coax, then press into mating plastic connector that will connect to 3" pigtail.

2. Build a new cable using RG-180 or RG-188 Teflon-insulated coax, rated for -70°C to +200°C service ... 100 feet (minimum purchase) is around $20 ... put two 0.250" Faston connectors for CDI end and two 0.110" Fastons to connect to distributor.

I don't know about the 83, but I just put one on a 78. It took about 15 minutes to pull the distributor, replace the wire, and reininstall the distributer. The wire I got from PP was $31 and about 4-5 inches long. Can the connector it plugs into be pulled closer to the distributer?
