1991 C2
I have just bought a 1991 C2 with tiptronic. Any feed back on this setup? The car is in top shape with only 34k on the clock. Is trans swap to a 5 or 6 speed manual feastible? Any input will be appreciated.

If you want a manual trans I would sell the 91 Motronic and buy what you really want. Personally I would keep the Motronic and enjoy it.

Nothing personal, but If I want to drive an automatic I drive the buick. Not my cup of tea. But enjoy it I am sure it is as nice an automatic as can be bought.

It would cost an arm and a leg and maybe a ...... to convert the car. There is a market for tips, so sell it and buy a 5spd.

It was my first time using the forum, therefore the poll. Anyhow, thanks for all the input, I might just keep the car, as it is as clean as it comes, and buy another one with a 5-spd.

Moki - The C2 with Trip is still a very fun coupe. You did get a coupe right? Please don't tell us you got a Targa or Cab!

I thought a C2 was a 911....why the poll then?
I voted for the 911, that way everyone wins. |

Welcome to the board Moki--you probably will take a ribbing for driving a tip but don't let it bother you! You've still got an awesome car and many will be jealous when they're stuck in traffic and sweating because they are wearing out their clutches and you'll just be driving away with a smile on your face enjoying the ride. Drive your car for awhile and if you decide to go for a 5 speed then sell and buy new.

I don't know how the 90-94 Tiptronic compares to the 95-newer trans., but the 95 993 Tip. that my buddy Mark has (kiwior) is not too bad at all. Shifts crisply and moves out pretty darn good. I like how they start out in 2nd gear (unless you mash the gas pedal) because it makes for a smooth takeoff from a stop.
I know the hardcores say an auto. sucks butt. How many hardcores have driven one? I know...........wouldn't be caught dead in one. They're really not bad. And this is coming from a guy (me) who has cars with nothing but manual transaxles.

Enjoy it or sell it and buy a manual, don't mess with a conversion, it would probably kill the resale value if you ever decided to sell. Drive it for a little while and then decide, it may be an auto, but it's still a 911.

I just got back from a 200mile trip with my C2. It was very fun with the tiptronic. It didn't shift as crisp as the Z28 of mine but very fun. I took a corner that I normally went slower (at least 20 mph slower) with the Camaro. I made the corner without any problems. I'd think that I will keep it.
My cousin has a 95 with tiptronic trans, they are similar in the way they take off and shift. His just has more power.
