Should I trade for a 993?

Hi Gang -

I'm thinking of trading my 356 (+ a little cash) for a 31k Arena Red/Gray 993 C4 with 31k on the clock.

Assuming the PPI is good, what do you folks think?

Here is the 356 (scroll to the bottom):

Thanks,
S.

Wow, that 356 is buff. Not to mention unique. Noticed you have an SC/Carrera there also. Can't you trade that on the 993 instead?

I'm with Victor on this one. Keep the 356 and trade the 911 (but only if you must!!!). The 356 looks like a keeper to me. Too good to lose.

I'll agree, that is one sweet 356, I'd hang on to it. I bet it turns more heads than even a 993.

I just bought the Carrera in the garage!

I am torn. I love the 356, but one has to tinker with it so much, and here in Seattle, I can't, in good conscience, use her as a daily driver.

Sigh.

Drive the carrera everyday, or get the 993 by trading the carrera and some $. You could drive the 993 as a dialy driver and keep that sweet looking 356.

That is a tough one. Pleny of 993's around, but not too many 356's that look like that - especially in my neighborhood!

That 356 is sweet. What will you do with a Carrera and a 993? Could not use both as daily drivers...993 and Carrera will depreciate, the 356 will appreciate. Seems like a no brainer, sell me the 356

Hell yes keep the 356, the 911 is cool but the 993 will be just that much cooler of that same car. Keep the 356 resting comfortably at home, maybe sell it when you need $ to buy your dream house...that car is defintely appreciating quickly. The Carrera might need some more time to be worth any serious $.

ALf -

If I had an SC it wouldn't be an issue!

The blue Carrera is a nice, and well modified car. The Arena Red just draws me in...

Ultimately, I will just get a bigger garage and keep them all.

That 356 is too nice to sell. I think you would have to weigh what you want. The 356 is not really a performance car, but it is a work of art. The 993 is a performance car, and although it is beautiful, it is not a work of art.

Good luck with your decision, David

Are you driving the 356? If not, that's the one to sell, simple as that.

I have seen this 356, it is extremely nice. I agree with the owner that living up here in the Northwest presents unique problems with owning a car like this. I don't blame him for considering the 993. The 993 would be drivable whenever, wherever he wants. I had an early car before I bought my'84, which I never drove, because I didn't want to drive it in the rain. You can imagine how much I drove the car for 9 out of 12 months a year. I hated leaving the car in the garage and never driving it. If he wants a car he can drive, I would say go for the 993. If he wants a show car that he can take pictures of and send them to others, then keep the 356. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have a 356 of this caliber, but realistically, I would rather have a car I can drive on a regular basis. This car would be great in California.

Emanuel, that is the unfortunate point.

I don't get to drive the '56 much because it is too nice, and the weather is too awful. I don't want to trash the 356 as an all year driver.

Letting the car sit only depreciates its condition. It is a work of art in the garage, but these cars should be driven.
