Missing air compressor, what to buy
Above says it all, what are the best suggestions.
Have you "tested" your spare? Does it deflate to fit back in position?

Campbell Hausfeld 12v compressor @ Wallyworld for around $9.99 is how I solved this problem. I've used it many times, including last Sat. to inflate the 4 flat tires on the new "bastard case".

I tested my 19-year-old spare last weekend. It works perfectly, didn't lose more than 1 psi in 3 days, and deflated back to its original shape in about 5 minutes.

I didn't get an air compressor with my first 911, nor my second one
...so I just put a couple of cans of Fix-a-Flat in with my canvas tool bag that has my coveralls, nitril gloves, wet wipes, relays, fuses, a couple of quarts of oil, brake fluid and some simple hand tools. The spare stays at home.Anyone ever run the spare with what ever combination of tires they are currently using? We don't usually size our street tires to approximately match our spare these days...or is it close enough. For long trips I might bring my spare, but I'd use until I find a tire store to replace a shreaded tire that Fix-a-Flat won't fix. Just one man's preference. |

Hey Souk,
I got a 15x6 Fuchs and put a 165x15 spare. Alot of guys are doing that I guess. As long as it get me home. Looks cool in a nicely detailed trunk too. |

A cell phone and a AAA membership are the best things to buy instead of an air compressor. I personally wouldn't trust a 20 year old spare tire but I do carry it in the car in case of an accident.

Yeah, I know Joe. As long as the wheel is round..but what I was hinting at was the diameter of the spare relative to the other three left on the car, or more importantly the one on the same axle.
Heck I drove 500 miles on a Honda donut once, with speeds exceeding 65 MPH (I cold have DIED! The GruppeB Minister of Safety would have had my nads if he knew : )...all because I got a big Mofo screw in my passenger rear tire on a curvy hill just over the Alabama border on my way to Chicago. It was a good thing it was the rear, 'cuse I was going 80 or so at the time. The tire lost air fast when the screw went through the tread, then sidewall. I must have stopped at every town between Alabama and Indiana looking for a tire that Friday night...of course everyone was shut down! By the time I got to Indiana..I say to hell with it and just went all the way...with enough air in the spare and without cornering like you are Speed Racer, those donuts don't wear down much. Of course I was poor and just got out of College at the time so I didn't have $$$ for AAA or anything that took money away from booze and fast women. So sure the spare works well, and and it'll get you home...but I often wondered if I shouldn't carry a spare tire (not the spare, but a tire!) when I eventually make my trip out to Cali in Bastard . When I was a kid Dad use to throw a tire on the roof rack and off we went on our summer cross country road trips...never did need that damn tire!Glad to see you are alive Joe. I though for sure the Grid Girl disappearance had you drinking like Bukowski somewhere

Intermatic.....it's the same company that makes the "Porsche" stamped unit for USA cars.......looks basically the same too, like a small briefcase...plug may be a loose fit, though, for the "fits-all" model, because it's made for USA cig lighter hole...not Porsche hole ( figures !), like the factory-approved piece.
