'84 911 Paint Code

Can anyone tell me what color this 911 is? The owner states it is "platinum" but that doesn't look like any platinum colored object I've ever seen. And the paint is supposed to be an original factory job.

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=184485448&dealer_id=56488121&car_year=1986&search_type=both&make=POR&model=911&transmission=&distance=0&address=10162&make2=&advanced=y&certified=&max_mileage=60000&max_price=&min_price=&first_record=26&end_year=1989&color=&start_year=1984&drive=&isp=y&pager.offset=25&engine=&body_style=COUPE&lang=en&fuel=&doors=&cardist=715#vdptop

And according to several wesbites, these were the available colors in '84:

1984 Paint Codes

Standard

Metallic

india red
black
alpine white
copenhagen blue
pasedena yellow
L M3A
L O41
L 90E
L Y5B
L Y1L

platinum
light bronze
sapphire
montego black
ruby red
gemini grey
zermatt silver
sobel
L M8U
L M1V
L Y5V
L Y9V
L M3V
L Z7Z
L Y7Y
L Y8V

Thanks for your help.

It's not a standard color. If it's an original 84 color it has to be either Platinum Metallic (655), Pewter Metallic (655), Quartz Grey Metallic (662) or Zinc Metallic (956). (Pewter and Platinum are listed as different colors in Morgan's Original Porsche but with the same code.)

Looks like Platinum matallic to me. But really there is NO way to be sure when viewed on-line. Too many variables from camera and monitor.

I have never seen a 911 this color and I have reviewed quite a few. It has a distinct brown tone that I have not seen before. The platinum metallics look more gold than this one.

All this makes me wonder if it is in fact original (which should be verifiable in person) and worth pursuing.

I also think it's odd that it has "original" phone dial wheels, which I've seen on very few 911s of this vintage. It's like seeing a 928 with Fuchs.

Yep, I'd say Quartz Gray Metallic or Platinum Metallic. Both of which have extreme "chameleon" properties, so pictures/lighting can be unreliable in determining the color.

My euro 84 came with phone dials, I think the reason you don't often see them is because owners change to fuchs immediately (like me) because nothing says 911 like fuchs.

In the text of the ad it says 1986, that may make a difference on the available colors. 1984 or 1986?

As per the pics, it is definitely an `84.
