All I know is I like some of the cool MSD pictures with the red finned things. All I have is a bunch of coil packs, and some wires.. kinda boring and colorless.. especially since my distributor seems to be missing!

Was there any solid outcome on this?

I am about to Twin Plug my SC Race Car and still haven't decided the best route to go!

One Box or Two?

We have dyno tested this on a very good 2.0 HSR race engine using single MSD box driving 2 Blaster coils and it ran and seemed OK until we read the power #'s compared to 2 boxes,2 coils. This engine made north of 230 HP on the 2 box setup and lost almost 15 HP on the single box split signal to 2 coils. we have repeated this test on various sizes and levels of build, non made equal power with the single box.

Mike is spot-on.

My advice to 996tt Stevo is to go back and re-read the whole thread from 2005 as the answer is all there with all the technical explanations, to suit.

Steve

I did go to the dual MSD units and two coils. Plus I put in a switch to turn the power off to the bottom MSD unit to enable me to check the operation of each, like checking the mags. Works great.

Running my engine on Mike Bruns engine dyno, single plug vs twin plug was worth approx 15 HP. This is a 9.5:1 slightly modified street engine.

A bit of a thread dig again (reviving the thread for a second time...) - I found this on the MSD site:

http://www.msdignition.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8064

My attitude is I might as well use two - they don't (in the scheme of twin plugging) cost much.

nice dig

You can drive two coils using one MSD ignition box by wiring them in a parallel fashion; coil pos to coil pos. and coil negs. to coil neg. Realize that the power output from each coil, since you are dividing the energy between the two coils will be about half of what is normal for the ignition or the coil.

Thanks for the reply.
Tell me, if the spark energy is halved, how does this compare to the spark energy of an OEM BOSCH coil in an OEM ignition setup?
Would the halved spark from the MSD coil still be greater than a OEM BOSCH coil?

It would probably be about the same
