Original car cost 71?

I'm just curious about how much my car might have cost when new and how it compares (price-wise) to American cars of the time. Corvette, Chevelle, etc.

Mine is (or was) a 71T with plain steel rims and hubcaps. It does have the "S" trim package.

Any ballpark ideas?

Car and Driver Feb 1972 has prices for the T $8804, the E targa $10,506 and the S $10,749. Don't know if this helps.

Interesting article. It always amazes me when they compare these kind of cars. I think the point should be how close the performance really is even when cars like the Vette has twice the HP and torque.

I was talking to a guy with a 69 vette at a show, I had my 69 912 targa which sold new for 5200.00 He purchased his vette new in 69 for 4400.00

Back in 1973 my New 914/6 was just $7'800.00 ,down here.
A VW Bug, was about $2,100.00 Taxes included in both.
