nice SWB 911S wasting away - pics

So I'm on a short vacation on Saltspring Island this weekend and I discover the car pictured below parked in the courtyard of a house where a couple of hippies are selling used books. I know there's been a few threads on this subject recently, but this appears to be a genuine Short Weelbase 911S. There weren't many of thes emade were there?

*Saltspring is one of many island in the Georgia Straght/ Straight of Juan de Fuca where old hippies, artists, rich folks and eccentrics go to live out their days in relatrive peace and quiet. It so happens that a lot of professional types like my in-laws also keep their recreational properties there.*

Anyway - I ask what the deal is with the car and one of the hippies says (in his best Tommy Chong voice) "..no way man, don't even think about it, he's going to fix the car up one day and let his girlfriend drive it.."

Now the house in shambles AND the guy doesn't even live there anymore, and apparantly rarely visits even. Judging by the T-bird parked in the carport all covered in moss, I'm going to go ahead and predict that this COMPLETLY salvagable SWB 911S will never turn a wheel again. The only glimmer of hope is that there is a for sale sign on the house, so if the place sells the owner might be forced to do something with the car. I don't think the place will sell anytime quickly though. It's not in a good recreational property location.

I peeked through the engine grill and the carbs are missing, and so are the valve covers. The interior is pretty trashed, but the body looks sound without any visible rust. Curiously it has a RS style front bumper. I don't know what to make of the whole situation. AAAUGH!

i bet it's a normal 68 (gauges) with a mixture of parts (f bumper, decklid) and not a genuine S.

Should be a 1967, judging from "split" decklid, but rear overriders are missing the 1967 rubber trim. Hard to tell, but gauge dials don't look green, as they would be for a 67.

That's what I wanted to hear actually. Any other clues as to it's real identity. My brother said that a real S woudl say so on the dashboard. This one just has a 911 badge there.

Yes, it would say so, and dash would be basket-weave.

And that air-freshener has turned from green to red, always a good sign.

black gauges with type = 68. the 68 only side marker lights often get removed and filled with the first paint job. did it have the 68 only break away style review mirror? although i have seen 67s with the break away style mirror.

Yea, but isn't that the side of a sport seat in the interior pic?

If sold in Canada would it even have side markers? They were for US only, right?

That looks like a '68 judging by the sugar scoops and the look of the dash, looks more like elephant hide than the perf vinyl.

Couldn't you claim the car as "Imminent Domain" since you would make better use of it than it just sitting there waisting away along with it's guardians?

Jasper,
Thanks for the pics, looks like a good resto candidate.
You need to dig a little deeper & find the owner.
If the house is for sale, even better. The info is out there.
As they say in bike racing...."dont give in"

looks like it has deep 6 wheels on it and the trim is the wide S stile, the basic 68 that I had didn't have the gage with the temp and oil level in it. and that does look like a sport seat, the 911S badge looks allmost silver than gold if the carbs and the valve covers are gone there is a good chance the engine is full of rain water

wow, cool find.
wonder how the air freshener smells.....

i've come across two longhoods where i live but they appear to be driven although hard to tell how regularly. I'm going to grab my camera next time I drive around to find them again.
