Joined PCA - 1st time -- should I be scared?!?!?
After finishing my research, I decided to join PCA...
After filling out the online form, and giving a valid credit card etc. I got no confirmation, no number, no temporary number, no "thanks for joining", just a page that displayed "application successfully submitted." ( YIKES ) Then I looked for the "Upfixin" thread about the recent deals for those volumes they were giving away for shipping charges only to find the main number: I called the PCA main number --- and no answer!! I'm bummed, I guess I'm expecting a bit more of an "Amazon" Experience, after all they do now have my $120.00 Should I be worried? -Tom |
I just joined also, and it took a week or two to receive a welcome package. Settle down, you'll be fine.
|
Zoanas, you avatars crack me up. Where is the full resolution version?
|
I got no answer when I called the Upfixin number also. I just chalked it up to "slack".
|
I joined in '68. Every minute worthwhile.
Best, Grady |

Acapella8: Just wait, you will get your packet pretty soon. Amazon its not, its a small group of women, not three warehouses and 1500 employees. I have purchased books about five different times and have never run into a problem. |
not to start an avalanche of calls to PCA, but I called this# 703-451-9000 about 1 minute ago and they took down my info, charged me $25, and they're shipping them out to me.

Scared of what, your the one that signed up and sent them money??!!
|
after the strip and cavity search it was all pretty run of the mill for me back in 2000.

you should be scared.....
literally shaking in your boots!!!! :( actually, PCA is OK like the local autocrosses and Parades don't like Panorama (the monthly mag) though it's a dud....especially when compared with Excellence or the mag from England |
The PCA is the people at the local level, IMO. It amazes me how much time some of the people in our Maverick Region spend organizing and officiating events, particularly those that involve racetracks! Unsung heroes doing iit for the love of the community.
Just the opportunity to blast around a track during a DE weekend for $200 makes the membership worthwhile. |
I agree with Ed. It depends on the local people. if you have a snob issue just ignore it until you find the DIY guys. We cant snobs as our projects keep us humble ;-)
|
Joined the PCA GPX region (Long Beach) a while back....wasn't for me....too many "get togethers" and "Porsche runs" not enough track time....dropped them ~ 2 years later.
Joined POC and now I have to go to monthly Trackoholics Anonymous meetings!! my $0.02 only |

haha Paul I was kinda waiting for you to tell your story :)
I think $120 is for 3 years...if it was $120 per year I think I'd stop. |
I'm not really worried -- just wondering if my experience was the norm or moreso the exception. I paid the 3 years so I wouldn't forget...
Excellence looks great -- what is the UK magazine that was mentioned? Thanks for the info all... |
unless you put it to use it's worthless. If used, priceless. Do DEs.

I received my FREE "Upfixin" collection to day. Getem wile you can guys! They are perfect for Pelican Heads:D |
PCA says "it's about the people" and, well...that's good and bad. If you get good people, you'll love being a member. Get some duds (like Paul did) and it can really turn you off. But they can't turn the duds away, so just be prepared for all kinds of people.
...did I spell "duds" right? |
