Thanks for the good info.

I installed the Tbiz EFI kit and had problems after that, i thought that this EFI kit was causing the problems because when running around 2500-3500 rpm the car had some small jerks. Tony told me that it might be the coil, i replaced it with a cheap 10$ high efficency coil (a none brand china coil) and the problem disappeared.
So i'm planing to go on a 5000 km trip starting next week and be back home one week later. I do not want to go with the china coil, therefore I ordered a msd blaster 2 coil.

But now i'm scared to use this coil, I was thinking that this coil might damage someting in the ignition system. I do use the original Bosch CDI, do you think CDI or something else can be damaged if I use this coil?

Thanks

I ran an MSD hi-vibration coil with Bosch CDI in my SC for 2 years and now in my 930 for a year with zero problems.

I had 3 Bosch (made in Brazil) coils fail in my SC inside a year.

Interesting info kirk

I see that they have two types of blaster 2 coil, one is supplied with an resitance that is 0,8 ohm did you use this or did you use the coil only?

Thanks

Part #8222 according to the website.

This is an epoxy filled coil. The Brazillian made coils all leaked the oil, overheated, and died.

So worst case senario is that the coil burns up internal.

The original Borsch coil is also oil filled, my original one was leaking some oil out of where the distributor wire was connected. And the cost for a new original coil here in Norway from the Porsche part supplier is 375 usd, including taxes. therefore i want to use the blaster 2 (i can easy have 3-4 blasters in reserve for that cost).

As I understand it, the specs of the coil are almost identical to the Bosch coil.

Do some searches on here and you will find lots of info on the MSD coil. Try searching on Rennlist too.

I personally don't think you'll have any problems using the MSD coil.

Just as an alternative for people using MSD parts, I've been running the MSD SS coil for a couple of years with no issues. I like the way the engine looks without that coil hanging off of it too.

Perhaps - but it is also harder to install the msd coil correctly.

The car have now been running 6800 km (4225 mile) since i installed the blaster 2 coil without the ballast resistor and everything works just perfect.

FWIW, I will be replacing the cap and rotor on my car this evening in preparation for an AX event on Saturday. At the same time, I will test and inspect the rest of the high voltage part of the ignition system. These high voltage signals are so persnickity that every effort to maintain them seems to yield improved engine performance. High voltage signals REALLY REALLY are anxious to go to ground. They might choose any one of several paths, only one of which is correct (jumping the spark plug gap). Just a helpful observation. I am certain that my car will run better by the time I go to bed this evening. Also FWIW, I use the stock Bosch system. I like it best.
