The factory recommended the smaller bars, the bigger obviously increases understeer or decreases oversteer if you prefer

It's interesting to me that the factory wouldn't go with something larger. Say 21mm front, 28mm rear to, on one hand, keep the same differentiation in torsion bar sizes, but on the other hand, stiffen the ride and eliminate even more roll than 19/26.

A little Off Topic, BUT I was at Rusnak Porsche in Pasadena last week. While walking back to my car, I peaked inside a service area and saw an IMMACULATE 1974 Carrera. A technician told me it had 6,000 original miles and the current owner paid $60,000 for it.

It was white with black "Carrera" script. The tech lifted the ducktail and showed me the pristine engine bay. I did not have too long to gawk, but the engine lid was a metal framed (original Carrera). It had 15" wheels. The car was gorgeous and to my eye it looked as good as any 911 I have ever seen. I typically freak out over the long hood RS look the most, but this 74 short hood was AWSOME!

Mike

P.S. I have seen DD74's 1974 911 in person too. It has the same aggressive stance and look that gets the adrenaline pumping.

Thanks, MOMO. Yeah, it wakes me up faster than a triple-shot cappuccino.

I'll post more pics when I get to the shop.

The RS 3.0L has many of the RSR components and modifications.

They had:

The Chassis has all the extra reinforcements that the RSRs had
RSR/917 brakes with dual masters
Front mount 908 oil coller
Trombone trans cooler in the left fender
Lightweight interior and roll bar.....much like the '73 RS lightweight and RSR 2.8
Short rear suspension arms
Adjustable front and rear sway bars
Front strut tie bar
Limited slip differential

Engine was an RSR bottom end including case, crank and rods......but the top end was "street" car stuff. Single plug, 9.8:1, Standard MFI and S cams. They were rated at 230 hp but it feels like 300!

I'm not sure what this one weighs.....I may just put it on the scales to find out....

Here's the factory color brochure for '74 Porsche models:

Looks like only non-metallic colors shown were available for the Carrera.

If you want inexpensive factory info pick up US christophorus issues 109 (Jan/Feb '74) and 110 (Mar/April) '74. I can take some pictures of my issues if people want when I get my camera back in a few days.

NOT EXACTLY turbo flares- These were hand made and grafted onto the steel quarters and fenders- very much like the 73 RSR. You can see how "sloppy" they were in the real car pics posted so far. The openings on the front were elongated and the edges folded over so a thin inner lip was the result. The rear was similar and also lending a rounded "bulbous" look compared to the "slab" sides of turbo flares. So to be correct in identifying the RS 3.0 flare, you can use the term 73 RSR flare to name them.
Can you have stock turbo flares modified to look more like the originals? Absolutely- but as the next picture posted shows- turbo flares are not the same

Please do!

Interesting using the trombone for the trans.

Also, big ports! 43/43

Bill
You forgot the
* thick casting aluminum rack support
* twin master cylinder set up with lockheed masters (adjustable bias at the pedals)
* 100 liter plastic fuel tank
* weld in rsr strut brace supports- removable tube for the brace
* 917 brakes with dual ate round reservoirs in front trunk
* rsr emergency "lever" brakes (no shoes ala stock street model)
* adjustable sway bars- RSR

motors have low compression pistons with mfi very similar to the 73 RS 2.7- total claimed output was remarkably low- kinda like the Z/28 was here!. Options included big port high butterfly, more RSR content

Hey Dave......

The engines are 9.8:1

Also....I've seen another fairly original RS 3.0 with a steel tank.

And in Paul Frere's book there's an old picture of one with the steel tank.

I would guess the plastic tank was optional as was the large rear spoiler?

Thanks Aaron! looks like it has a non-stock seat: maybe recaro SRD? anything else that would affect the weight vs. original?

Cheers,
