These type of threads are worthless. They don't do anything to the scammer. In fact, Pelican goes out of their way to protect the scammers.
The most famous ones automatically get their last names blanked out, so nice of you Pelican! |

The next thing that's going to happen is you will be charged storage fees and given time, your van will be sold in a mechanic's lien sale to pay off your "debt" to the shop. Contact the CA BAR and an attorney ASAP. |

I used this phone number google search. You can enter a number and auto populate all the fields. I found the shop FB https://www.facebook.com/Jerrys-VW-Heaven-1545370832421647/ And obviously it is named differently |

I am sorry for your misfortune. Now I don't usually parse ROs from top to bottom but this caught my eye: "All parts stated New are new unless stated differently are recondition parts". I'm sorry but that to me sounds like email scam language 101. And yes I know about Motor Meister and its sordid history. Just blows my mind that they / Jerry seem to be slipshod about every and I mean every aspect of their business.

I remember back in the 2000 - 2005 range when looking for my first Porsche they advertised in some of th Porsche dedicated magazines.
I used those ads for possibly using them as some of the cars I looked at needed some mechanicals and they were the cheapest around. I figured by their multiple ads around they did it because of expertise and volume. By did I ever luck out never needing them but here we are 18 - 20 years later and they are still at it. How in todays world are they not vetted by every means available to us. Maybe the RICO act will bring them down. Anyone try that approach yet.

The shop Jerry Marks Jr had in los alamitos has been closed. My complaint with the BAR has been closed. Jerry filed bankruptcy and the landlord is still waiting to get into the shop. The bankruptcy has postponed the landlord taking over the space and giving everything back.
If you are a victim file a claim with the Bankruptcy Trustee administrator especially if you'd like a chance to get your property back. Her name is Jen Papadaupolis and I've had no luck with the phone but she does reply to email. Her contact info is: Jen Papadaupolis 714-814-8855. Email: jenpapadop@imsbk.com |

Yes, just finished reading Carl's story. Odd that he couldn't find a shop in Chicago. Living in Ohio I know of several reputable shops here that could have easily taken on the project.

Back in the day, people who wanted to believe in the M.M. rebuild “deal” would excuse the bad reputation by saying something along the lines of: “Of course, if you build as many motors as they do, you’re bound to have a few unhappy customers.”
Seeing how long they were able to persist, forever changed my assumption that a business that has been around a decade or two would have to be reputable.

6 O'Clock News
The kid (Suzanne) is REGULARY on the tv news in LA JUST to add insult to local injury. Change the channel!!!
I have been screwed by so called "Licensed Auto Repair Facilities" in CA. The "LAW IS ON THE SHOP SIDE SO GET OVER IT". YOU WANT JUSTICE BUT YOU GET POLITICIZED APPLICATION OF LAW(EVERYWHERE). I have lost all respect of the city of Burbank, CA legal enforcement(different Porsche crook PS Racing). Just keep tabs on these "PEOPLE" so they cannot screw more innocent people. The MM website ads were pretty slick and EZ to believe that the biz was legit. However, these clowns have re-opened up under new biz names so BEWARE!!! I have heard of 2-3 new biz openings just in the rumor mill. If it is too good to be true... Last edited by Dodge Man; 08-13-2018 at 01:43 PM.. |

California.
You are correct.
I had a "run-in" with two shops. And, did involve the California Bureau of Automotive repair. Received a full refund on all of the "work" performed on one case, and they shut down the other shop....... But what I found to be most interesting was, at that time, the automotive repair folks lobbied our politicians for a law which prohibits the Bureau from disclosing any prior complaints. So, we cannot obtain any prior history on repair shops in California........ Gerry

I am here in Palos Verdes and about a decade ago got scammed from a shop in West LA. On my way to work my 84 started smoking, parked it at work and came down at lunch and it wouldn't turn over, which I found out much later was due to hydro-lock. Anyway, scoured the Internet for shops and found one, had the car towed there and was told I needed a full rebuild for $8k. I paid it, got the car and still did not run right, took it to Accutrack in Manhattan before they sold it to that other guy and they showed me hw the cases were never opened and laughed at the invoice I was given, just a mish-mash of parts. I apparently only received a top end and had a bad valve replaced. I contacted the BAR and a great guy went and look at my car but couldn't determine that the work was not completed and after speaking to Accutrack I begged him to please go and look at it and they will prove to you it was never rebuilt. The guy from the BAR then understood what was going on and contacted the shop, which I did as well and told them I bought domain names and am going to plaster the Web with their scam. I got all of my money back. The BAR cannot force a shop to return the money but they are a valuable asset to have on your side once they realize you have been wronged.
