Buying Snap-On Tools?
How does one go about finding the Snap-On truck and purchasing their tools?

they'll be in the phone book... ask where he'll be on a date/time
or follow them around... and, BTW - my credit card give points that I can redeem for Snap-Off certificates (or Home Depot) - It's an AT&T Universal Card - not promoting it; no other affiliation ecept I have one.

When I need them, I call and they tell me where the nearest truck is.

As a local tire store or mechanic when the truck comes to their location. They usually come around the same time on a certain each week.

Yeah, I agree, won some nice ratchets and sockets on ebay.
There really is a difference between craftsman and the snapon ratchets. The sockets, well, hard to tell, but the action on my stubby flex head 1/4 ratchet is amazing, all for $13.00!

You can also order directly from snapon.com. Spendy, though.

Probably no more expensive than the truck, but you have to add shipping.
If you can find something on eBay, you'll save.

What'd ya do, hit the lottery?
![]() EDIT for clarification: I consider snap-on tools to be a rip off and a good way to seperate money from fools (no offense). The exception to that is someone who has money to burn and doesn't care what a product is really worth, i.e. a lottery winner. That's what I meant

I've found that in my area(Orange County) there can be a difference in price from one truck to another of between 5-15%, which can add up. If it's something common they stock on the truck, I know I can get a deal, if it's special order it's easier just to order directly from Snap-On.

I was working part time in a garage that Snap-on visited.
The driver said he needed to get rid of the display of pullers with most of the tools on the board. The company was changing the type of display in the trucks. So I ended up with one heck of a deal on an almost complete set of every puller known to man! Pays to be in the right place...etc. Bob

I'm lucky to be living in a small town, I guess. I just call the dealer, he calls when he's done with his route, and I go by his house & pick up what I need. Snap-on quality is hard to beat. But the prices!!! That's why most of the snap-on tools in my inventory are tools that Craftsman doesn't make.

Jewelry is expensive...
The other effective way to buy them is to get things that you need for close-quarters work - Craftsman is often a lot thicker instead of better alloys or forging.

I'd like to buy the Snap-On tools that would get used the most working on Porsches and fill in the rest with Craftsman.
Any reccomondations from those who wrench on their Porsches as to what Snap-On tools buy. Thanks- Craig Backer |
