Engine drop charge, in/out ?
What's a reasonable charge to drop the engine and put it back in? My shop is quoting 1,200 Cdn. Seems like a lot.

With the right tools, it should only take a couple of hours each way.
4 hours labor at 300 Cdn seems really steep.

Book time (depending which book your shop uses)
Insurance crash manual 6 hours without a/c, 6.5 with a/c My shop charges 8 hours to R&I engine/tranny assy As mentioned most shops can do it in 4-5 hours. the shop has to earn a living. $1200 seems steep using 8 hours @ $100 per hours.

My shop quotes the same as Mookster's But then he doesn't charge it. I've been there when he does it...out in like an hour tops. They do these things all the time. They don't have to take a moment to think about the things that DIY'ers like us do. They just bang, bang, bang and it is on the jack coming out.

I did it myself in 2-1/2 hours with the help of some fellow Pelicans. 8 hours for a shop to do it is ridiculous.
Here's my engine drop thread.

I dropped mine 2.5hours by myself also. Anything else is gravy for them. Whatever is done beyond the drop is additional of course.

No shop that I know works as a "NON-PROFIT" organization. I think a fair R&R charge for a 78-89 911 engine should be about 5.5 hours. The shop makes some money and the customer isn't taking it in the shorts.

A shop should have it's costs and profit built into it's hourly rates. If it works 4 hours it should charge 4 hours. If that isn't enough for some profit, raise the rates. To work 4 hours and charge 6 is fraud.
