Your thoughts on a 1970 911T for $3300 Cdn?

Hi Folks,
I saw this car posted on an obscure forum and enquired about it. It seems like it would be a good deal even regardless of the rust, but I wanted some opinions on whether it was worth the hassle to have it shipped to Toronto. Without a PPI this is probably a waste of time, but I thought I'd ask here anyways. Here are the details:

1970 911 T. Looks to be all original aside from the aftermarket mirrors. It may even have deep sixes! The guy knows very little about 911's or P-cars for that matter. Here's a copy of the emails we've sent back and forth:

"the front and back seats are black leather and are in relatively good condition. the rust is by the gas tank and by where the foglights should go. there's also some on the back by the porsche emblem. you can't really see the rust too well in the pictures because it's surface/bubbled rust in several places. i've had the car for ten years and have always been meaning to fix it up, but i'm not mechanically inclined. the problem beside it sitting for the last 3 odd years, is that the car draws power from the battery when the car's not running. all you need to do is put a simple kill switch so you can shut off power to the battery when you turn off the car. I had a friend who had the same problem with his VW bug and it worked... an apparently it was relatively cheap and easy... but like I said, I'm not mechanically inclined.

the engine's fine last time I checked, but to get her going she'll just need some TLC. "

More questions:
"1. Has it ever been repainted? Is red the original colour? ORIGINAL COLOR YELLOw. CURRENTLY RED
2. Does it have the original engine? ORIGINAL ENGINE Weber carbs or mechanical fuel injection? (A pic of the engine would be fine). THE CARBS I BELIEVE WERE UPDATED.
3. Do you know if there is any rust on the underside of the car? NOT SURE
4. Does it come with a tool kit/jack/spare tire? THERE SHOULD BE A SPARE TIRE, HAVEN'T CHECKED IN A WHILE
5. Do you have any maintenance/repair paperwork for the time you had the car or for previous owners? I'M SURE I HAVE THE PAPERWORK FOR THE TOP ENGINE OVERHAUL SOMEWHERE. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED.
6. Was the car originally from Canada or from the states? CALIFORNIA
7. Does the car have air conditioning? NO
8. Other than the battery drain, do you know of any other major problems eg. suspension, steering, brakes, engine, other mechanical issues? NOPE. RIGHT NOW FROM SITTING SOME OF THE LATCHES HAVE RUSTED SHUT THOUGH. ON THE HOOD, THE TRUNK, AND THE PASSENGER DOOR.
9. Has it ever been in any accidents as far as you've had the car or been aware of? BEFORE I BOUGHT I DID AN ACCIDENT CHECK AND THERE WAS NONE. I HAVEN'T HAD ANY. ALTHOUGH MY MOM BACKED INTO (LIGHTLY THOUGH), AND YOU CAN SEE AT THE BACK UNDER THE PORSCHE SIGN THAT THERE'S SOME RUST FROM BEING BACKED INTO. NOTHING MAJOR. "

And finally:
"Is the car drivable? How much mileage?
all the lights and blinkers work, but it will take some tlc to get it started because it's been sitting. and i'm no mechanic."

He knows nothing about this board or any other Porsche forums as far as I could tell.

And now the good stuff. Pictures...

If the engine and tranny are actually still in the car, and you want a PROJECT to work on yourself, it looks like a great deal to me.

Looks complete to me. Barring severe rust damage underneath it looks like a decent project car to me. But we all know that giant sucking sound a Porsche makes when it gets close to a wallet Go for it.

Poorsha,
Thanks for your generous offer as well as the suggestions for where to have a PPI done. I think in the end I will let this one pass as it will be too difficult for me to make arrangements and I'm finding myself still very happy and consumed with my current SC restoration/rebuild (pics to follow sometime soon).

So, I've had a few pm's from people interested in this car. I have no stake in it, however I'm going to release the information in a controlled manner.

Because this seller seems to be obvlious or lazy in selling, he hasn't seemed to get alot of calls/inquiries.
I don't want to give his info here or he will be flooded with emails which means the price would be driven up. It seems as though he's willing to come down even from the listed price. It would be nice for a fellow pelicanite to get the best deal possible on this and spend the savings on fixing the car. Good karma can never hurt.

So if anyone's interested, post your story here and we'll see who's more deserving. If you want anymore info or questions, about the car, pm me.

It sounds a little strange that you, in Ontario, discovered a cer for sale in Vancouver that is kind if hush hush.
Why has this car not been listed for sale here?
Is there more to the story than you and I know (and I know nothing)?
Perhaps the car is a complete piece of junk and he never wants to see (or hear) of it aain.
I would be interested to see the car to satisfy my own curiosity.
I personally have no interest in the car but "ya never never know if ya never never go".

I don't think anyone should try to steal the car, that would be unfair even if the seller is lazy/oblivious. Help him sell it for what he is asking, and move on. Just my .02.

Okay folks,
Floodgates are open. Anyone want to see this car, here's the owner's info (again not related to me). Poorsha had a look at the car on Friday and said it needed 2 new fenders, paint is really bad, all car openings are seized shut except drivers side door. Still may be a good project for someone. Good luck and post back if you get it!

From the owner, Kraig Wenman last night:
"Just wanted to keep everyone updated. The current buyer didn't come through
with the Monday money deposit, so I'm now open to hear any new offers you
might have. If you want to take a look at the car in person, you can stop by
the below address anytime, which is my mom Donna's house. The car's in the
driveway and the door is open.

Best,

Kraig"

Wow, since I have been considering selling my project '70 T, I was a bit concerned when I saw the price of this car...then I read "all the openings except drivers door are seized shut"....I take this to mean rust...

Yup. You get what you pay for. Also has 14" rims not 15" deep sixes. Still, might be a good project for someone....

Talking

If the underside of this car is intact it is a steal. Replace the front pan, lube the hinges and voila, a excellent roller for under $3K US. If the engine works after some massaging, that's just gravy.....

Parts alone this car is worth the price of admission, IMHO. Then again, it looks like moss is growing in one of the wheel wells so there MIGHT be other problems.
