.... Well, green paint jobs on them - all I know... tractors)

pjv911, you're gonna inspire a lot of folks with that 'find' yours. Holy smoke !

What is hard to comprehend is how you were able to discipline yourself to wait it out 6 - 8 months later...

This fella had been around his porsches for years....but decided to get out all at once.

Pack Rat. Some people have more time and storage space than good sense and plans. The really sad thing is, some of these cars were probably roadable or fixable before they got the frankenstein/mummy treatment.

Amazing stuff!

Although I get the same feeling of mixed emotions that i do when hearing about an archaeological find- glad the stuff was rescued but it means one less for someone else to find!

About one block from my house, there's a yellow '74 Targa with the rear on jackstands in the garage. I've only caught glimpses of it occasionally, when driving by.
I stopped and asked the guy about it ten years ago, and he said he was going to "fix the motor", and was not interested in selling. The car had been there at least 10 years before that! The weird part? It's still there!

That guy was an idiot. If he had taken better care of the lot or turned them over he'd be a lot better off now.

simply unbelievable, did this seller have a brain? Being that he was a previous Pcar wrench, he must have known the sale of just a few of the engines laying around alone could have netted him the $15.5k he got for the whole "lot", what a steal, way to go

Please Do NOT tell me that wsa Wilton CT! I live in Westport...a mile or three away. Of course, I would have no place to store it all.

Sad...if those cars had seen some care...

It was wilton New Hampshire. And yes three of the cars were running driving cars when they were parked to there death. One of the runners was a early year 65 911. The others were a 69 911t and a 75` 911. For what its worth my first ebay auction listing parts from this lot netted $22k . That was about 250 items sold in one week. It was most of the smaller stuff and many parts were NOS.

Nice goin there, Kurt.

Interesting - that after Kurt's visit and offer, the collector could have sold to another buyer who may have observed acreage....ready to jump on it.

That's an insane story - thanks for the pics to back it up because frankly it would be hard to believe otherwise.

The guys not an idiot..although he may be a little nuts (who isn't). I'm guessing he sold it to Kurt because he saw that Kurt was likewise afflicted with "the bug". It probably didn't hurt that Kurt came to visit occasionally in an old 911 ?

The barn finds are still out there. We are always on the hunt, and recently came across one we like to call the Treasure Trove. Ok, there was only one 911 in there along with a handful of parts, an exta engine, a few sets of carbs. But we are in the 356 market for the most part, and BOY was there a lot to be had there. The best find was a 1951 356 Coupe. It was one of the first 600 coupes ever produced ... ever. There were also 10 more 356s of various vintages and states of disrepair. Add to that THREE mobile homes full of incredible parts (including no less than 20 engines taken apart, bagged and labeled) and it was amazing. I kept the 911 for myself -- a 1972 911T. We bought it all as a lump for resale so the 911 was basically free.

Here are a few pics. If anybody is super curious to see more, you can see a gallery here: http://www.elementalmag.com/trove2006/

He knew what he had and what it was worth. He needed money because his roof needed to be redone on his house and knowbody else stepped up to offer more. In the end after transportation fees to long island I spent nearly $16.5 in the end. But so far I got back about 5 times that much and still have all the big stuff (engines, trannies, fenders, specialty tools, etc). Yes it was a big score.
I should also add that I was thinking to offer him $25k for all of it but after showing my wife the pictures she said NO WAY IN HELL ARE YOU SPENDING $25K OF OUR MONEY ON THAT JUNK !!!! So I had no choice but to lay back and hang with my $15k offer until he broke . So my wife deserves some credit too. What would your wife say if you showed her those pics ?
