Adjusting targa door glass angle/height

Plan on opening my driver side door up (81 SC targa) for a door stop replace, speaker update, alarm switch replace etc

While i'm in there i would like to adjust the angle of my drivers side window. It seems a little 'out' recently and does not lay against the vertical seal on the targa bar as snug as it used to leaving a gap for water and more notably, wind noise.

Ive heard the bentley manual has some info but alas i do not have one.

Can anyone point me to the screws/adjustment mechanism for adjusting window angles and max height inside the door? They arent the allen key ones in the jamb are they?

thanks in advance.

Good question. Mine does the same. I adjusted the vent window height and fooled with the side window years ago. I can't recall how I adjusted the side window but however I did it it still isn't a tight fit against the targa bar. I've always thought it was the seal and not the window that caused the slight gap.

KC:

Thanks for the link. That is the best description of adjusting the door glass and frame I've ever seen. Should work just fine for Cab owners too.

Also read up on the door stay replacement, the new ones require some modification to work smoothly. Either modifying the arm (sanding down the ridges) or the piece inside the door can be trimmed slightly. I put in a new one and realized this later and then took a dremel to the arm, but there is not a lot of space...

Make sure that you get some replacement copper plugs too, our host sells them as well.

I used some small set screws and little nuts, deffinantly not ideal. Next time I'm in my doors, I'll be replacing the screws with copper plugs.

While you're in there, replace the felt that the window slides through. Very ease to do espeically if you're going to pull the quarter panel anyway. You'll have to take at least pull some of the felt out of the way to replace the window block, might as well just replace it.

I posted a thread about this a while back, but I don't keep track of them like I should.

Here's a picture:

This is before I removed the quarter panel assembly. I didn't realize that the window guide rail would have to be removed to gain access to the channel block.

Here is a comparsion of the old block and the new one (before I installed it). You can also see the copper plugs that I dremeled out.

I need to do the same job. Do you have any more pictures? I am wondering how to remove the old brass plugs and how do they go back in. It seems like you have to install them from the vent window side which means taking out the vent window?

Yes it is. It is slow though, so you have to be patient and give it time. I get 12 pages.

FActory manual.

^^^^^
The first step is to place a strip of painter's tape across the
top of the closed window.

Then open the window to determine the window's
intrusion into the seal.

^^^^^
Then using the appropriate increments adjust the
window to provide the correct seal.

If of any help, I also have the factory Targa top manual.

However too large for this forum,
will need your email.

Best,

Gerry

Thank you all for posting this. I'm having a few leaks in my Targa that I just purchased around the front where the window and Targa top connect. I figured I might as well replace all the seals, so this is going to come in handy as I replace the seals around the cabin.

The Service Manual that was posted in Dimebank, is it only supposed to be 12 pages?

Thank you again for posting this information,

-Ryan
