Is this a 73 or 74 Ducktail

I know that there are ways of telling the dif between the 73 and 74 ducktail. This one has the lights in it for 73 application but that doesn't really tell me anything right? I understand the 74 just had plates screwed in that could be removed easily. I recall something about the grill recess is different on the two years. It is a metal frame, not aluminum, and looks to have been originally painted Sepia. I have attached pix. Any Help would be great. I bought it for my 74 Carrera, but if it is actually a 73, I'll be selling it soon....thx.

I think the grill recess is deeper on the 73 tails than yours.

Somewhere I've seen photos comparing the recess... maybe a post here on Pelican.

My vote is '74 anyway.

Why would the recess on the 74 be any different than the 73? They used the same grill.

....just one of the subtle changes. The 74 was supposed to be much more refined than the 73 in design I have read. I have never owned either tail until now, and thus, didn't know exactly witch one I had.
I am glad it is the 74, as I have the car to fit it :-)

73
due to the lights on the decklid

74 has no lights, cause lights are on the bumper guards

The '74 tails had cutouts for the lights like the '73 tails, but had blockout plates screwed over them.

OK, Now I'm confused on this recess thing. Are you guys referring to the actual depth of the grill recess or...Are you referring to the angle of the recess sidewall? The silver lid has a very steep, almost perpendicular wall. The red lid has more slope in the sidewall.

If the depth of the recess was shallower on the later lids, then the grill would be taller in relation to the lid. I don't recall seeing that kind of difference in the later cars.
