Shift Coupler Question
I'm dropping the engine in my '77, 911 for a rebuild. I'm having trouble getting the set screw in my shift coupler loose. Does this set screw require a hex, 10pt, 12pt or a special wrench. What size? A 4mm hex is too small and a 4.5mm hex is too big! Any help is greatly appreciated.

The 4mm (or 5/32) should work. It does on my 73. If not, the fitting is different or someone has butchered the nut.

Yep, its a 4mm. Try cleaning it out with a pick or something similar. Take a close look at it with a flashlight to see what the problem is.

I had the same problem with this set screw. I ended up carefully drilling down the axis of the screw and used a screw extractor to remove it. Replaced it with a new one.

Got it!!! I wanted to make sure of the size so I didn't strip it out.
