engine sound pad installation

I have a 1981 911sc and the engine sound pad has deteriorated badly. How hard is it to replace, do I need any special adhesives or tools? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I replaced mine about a year ago- i got a kit and you need to use 3M spray neoprene glue- it comes in a black can and the spray is very directed- not a mist. you let it set for a bit and then apply the pad- it works well though of course you still hear the scream.

replaced my sound pad on my '68 911. followed pelican parts tech article with some alterations of my own. first trace old orig sound pound onto new pad. i used 3m trim adhesive (non-spray) and started from the base of the engine up. very easy just a bit time consuming (1hr for a rookie like me) and a knuckle scraper. good luck.

I did this job once on my 70 911E and it worked OK...for a while...used the 3M Super Adhesive spray but had to have my "wrench" reglue it at one point during a tranny service. After that it stuck more or less until the pad totally disintegrated! Now I just ripped it all out and enjoy the "motor music" all the more! I doubt I'll put a new pad in any time soon....

If you buy a sound pad from porsche (original equipment), it causes a bundle and will fall apart later. They also sell a fitted foam rubber mat at places like automation. But I found the same material in Orchard Supplies. They are sold by the square food @ less than $2.00 per square foot and it will not disintegrate.
