DE Timers/Stop Watch

I have searched around and have not seen a wide array of choices. I'm really looking for a economical choice not high dollar like the hotlap, etc.

What are you using to time your laps?

A used hotlap timer and transmitter can be had for about $150. Is that cheap enough for you? Cheaper than that and you might have to con your spouse or child to click a stop watch while you go around the track.

Hey Souk, Thanks.

You don't know my wife. That timer would cost me at least grand.

some clubs this way do not allow timing devices for DE's for "insurance purposes" I use my video cam and playback to time my laps. Not instant gratification but it works.

I know what you mean. I stopped asking my spousal unit if she wanted to go to the track after the first year of track events.

HotLap also makes a trigger for the timer that you click so you don't need a transmitter. At most track events around here, someone had a transmitter setup.

An in-car lap timer is one of the best bang-for-the-buck investments you'll ever make in your car. It will make you faster because you'll be able to see and learn what works and what doesn't.

Get the Ultralap, though. Hotlap is outdated, overpriced, underfeatured and prone to vibration-induced failure.

If that's too much to spend, then get someone to time you from the side of the track. Using any kind of a stopwartch inside the car is -- in my opinion -- a way of putting other drivers in danger. At the events where I'm the chief instructor, I wouldn't allow it.
