Alternator fan paint job

One of my winter projects is to paint the alternator fan red.
Is it cheaper to replace the fan with a new red one or paint it by a professional.

Can the housing around the fan be cleaned? what produces are recommended?

My insulation pad is falling apart, should I replace it or just remove it.

I painted mine with rattle can Heat paint. It has held up well now for 3 years. I painted my fan silver polished the inside of the fan housing and sprayed that with clear. Then painted the outside of the fan housing black.

If you take out the engine padding you get more engine noise in the cabin. Me, I like that. Some don't.

I would polish it and let it be, after a while do the same over and over... You can paint it but it won't last and guess where the paint chips end up... clogging the cooling fins.

The sound pad is up to you. I replaced mine - couple of hours job after removing the old one and the cleaning was done - with a contorsionist helping :-)

man, that's a nice, clean, original finish fan. would be a shame to put a "red motormeister rattlecan special" on it.

I agree the current fan looks great. I painted mine red and a few miles down the road it looks like crap. The edges take a beating. I think I will re-strip and polish or just scotch bright finish. If mine would have looked like that I would have been happy. The fan housing could maybe use a new coat of black though....

I also agree the fan looks great and would opt to leave it. Mine did not look good so I painted it silver with a high temp spray paint and baked it in the wife's oven (she's great about these projects). Fan still looks good over a year later.

Saw the motor miester add right after I purchased my car loved the look of the red fan. so I did mine that way used red high temp paint. A year later when I got my turbo now knowing what a motor meister motor is and enduring several did motor meister do you engine questions I did the turbo fan in silver with a black shroud. used high heat paint, then high heat clear coat and baked it in the oven 300F for 1 hour. last week the shroud on my first car self destructed, so then new shroud is red with a silver fan and rennline stainless steel strap. by the way the red paint started coming right off the first time but now with it being baked it is much more durable.

I went with the powder coat and it is very tough. Did not know if I wanted silver or red so I did both.
