Using the payment calculator provided, it's only $8415 per month...

Somebody might buy it...just so they can brag they paid that much. After all, somebody foolishly put a TON of money into a 911SC, then wrote a book about it.

I saw the title of this post, and got a bit worried. I'm glad that's not the current amount that's gone into the now famous SC.
Time to read the book again. Thanks for writing it. |

What a great piece of Porsche racing history, Stephan. And a veritable bargain compared to the Safari car for sale in Germany for US$700,000 ......

That would put its corrected price at about $950,000.

Doug - why are these prices unbelievable? It's simple supply and demand. There are only a few of the Safari cars left (the sister car to this will be unveiled at Rennsport III) and the T/R is nearly as rare. Besides, this is all just chump change compared to American muscle car prices.

and a part of a "missing link" in the racing history but maybe it isn't worth "so much" - we'll see ...

Curt....
I guess it comes down to the monumental excesses that circulate through this world of ours. When you think about it, there is barely any "material" value to this car. What I mean by that, is that you could build one pretty easily for much less than 1/10 of that cost today....a replica. Does the history and bragging rights of ownership of this car amount to over $650,000??? I suppose you could argue about that until the cows come home. So to me, the rest of the value of these vehicles is purely greed....on both parties ends. The seller wants every nickel they can get....the buyer wants the chance to either be the next seller or an ego boost that I cannot even comprehend or a possible half dozen other reasons. The one thing that is not arguable is that $700,000 is a hell of a lot of money. Compare the value of this car to a 8000 square foot home that most people (at least me) could only dream of owning one day. Obviously there are many, many people in the world that have got ungodly amounts of money, and they can certainly do whatever they want with it.... It is just hard for me to get a grasp on something like this, especially after returning from my trips to Asia and seeing all the people that have nothing. I live in a different world than someone who would is able to spend $700k on a car like this.... So it really shouldn't be that hard for you to believe that there are a few people (like me) that just shake their heads at prices like this. An old race car costing more than 98% of the people's homes in the US (just an estimate...but not far off I am sure). I really think these kinds of prices are hard to justify in quantitative terms. It reminds me more of buying art... In the end, if someone will pay this much for this car....then it was fairly priced I guess. That will however not change the fact that I think it is all craziness, and it is hard for me to believe.
