Factory Wheel Size
What is the factory 15inch wheel size for an 81SC. I have the 16 wheels, but am looking for a set of winter tires/wheels, and wanted to use a set of 15 inch, but did not know what the original size was, or the original tire sizes that would work well for snow tires.

In 81, the SC came with 6X15 in front and 7X15 in rear, with 185/70 and 215/60 tires. The rims were the cookie cutters originally, with the fuchs as an option. You could also have 6X16 and 7X16 Fuchs.
Of course, most owners put 205/55 in front and 225/50 in rear when they changed, which shortens the gearing a bit. You may not want to shorten the gearing for a winter set, though. Hope this helps, GeorgeK |

I would look for a set of 16" wheels for winter use. You will find a better selection of tires. Stay with 7" and 6" widths. Narrower tires work better in snow and ice.
If you go with 15" rims, don't put on the 205/55 225/50 combo. Not only will it change your gearing, it will also lower your car by 1/2" which is not good for winter driving either. ------------------ Bill Krause '79 911SC Euro |
