Harness mounting help
I'm in the process of mounting my new Crow 5 point harness. Is mounting with eye bolts to factory points a bad idea? I will be installing a TRE Clubsport roll bar this weekend so the shoulder belts will attach to that and I will use an eye bolt through the floor for the sub strap.
Thanks, Dave

I don't have any experience with this setup, but usually eye bolts are rated to take a load at no more than a 45° angle. It looks like your angle is more than that.
On the other hand, I was looking at a Ferrari F1 car many years ago and the harnesses were mounted on pins that couldn't have been more than 6mm with 6mm bolts on each end. Hopefully someone with more experience will have an idea. If not, I'd check the SCCA rule book.

That's how mine are mounted on the outboard side. My shoulder harnesses go to the back seat seat belt attach points.

Don,
What did you use for the inboard side? Dave |

Less brakes, more gas!

If you read specs on eye bolts they are definitely not intended for this off axis use. Doesn't meant they do not work. For mine, I direct mounted them at the outboard lower belt mount and the inner mount on the shift tunnel. I ony used eyebolts for the shoulders and they went into the rear seat belt mounting holes. I do not have a roll bar, but a harness bar. Ideally would be mounting to the bar as you will, or eyebolts straight back with large backing plates...
I know that later cars have issues as the inner belt mount is actually on the seat. My 82 has a very nice welded in OEM seatbelt mount just behind the e-brake. I'm sure you can search out a ton of threads on this subject. Also, you should be able to look at pictures of race cars for sale and see just how they have done it as well. Best regards, Michael

If you put an eye bolt on the inboard anchor of the picture above....it will interfere with the console.
- Wil EDIT- a Brey Krause piece can be purchased that piggy-backs this bolted area and provides the necessary clearance with "clip-on" mounts....
