PS I'll write about why I got mine later.

That has been a bonus.. something that I have come to appreciate with time.

I am certainly grateful to my 911 because it has made me a better driver.

The 88 3.6 was an animal... tiring and difficult... but after every drive I felt a sense of accomplishment that none other car has ever given me (my 993 included).

Now I am looking forward (with substantial dose of fear) to driving my 3.9 project....
Well put, along the lines of...

Well I could be going faster, but it wouldnt be this fun.

Growing up my dad brought home an 83 944 in maybe 85 or 86, i remember going down to the garage and just stairing at it, the look, the stance, I was hooked!

later in college I was studying abroad and had a connection at Porsche through a friend, we took a factory tour, and immedately made the decision that I would work 2 jobs to pay for one, what ever it took. I will never forget the evening before our tour that my buddy and I spent training out to the factory and walking over to find it (we wanted to make damn sure that we knew where we were going so we wouldn't be late)

we were hanging out by the entry gates and stood watching as 3-4 techs blew by in new 993's giving them their factory shakedown...

I worked up to a 911 after going through a 928, 968 and 914.

During my sophomore year in college, a roommate and I went to the Steamboat Springs antique car race and rally. It was amazing to see old 911s and 356s racing, and really racing, not just going kind of fast for fun. I took hundreds of pictures and put blow ups all over my house.

Since then, I've owned old jeeps and a bronco, to help appreciate simplicity.
I owned and old BMW air-head motorcycle to appreciate the torque and sound of opposed cylinders
I owned a newer Cadillac to appreciate overhead cams and the fact that heavy cars just don't corner well at all.
I owned a 1987 Mercedes convertible to learn that a car with style and power is nice.

Put all of those together in a beautiful and well engineered package and you get a 911.
