just did oil change and...

Noticed something I hadn't previously. The engine 'block' has a part number starting with a 930 ... ...; the Fan Shroud also has a 930 ... ... number; and something else I looked at has a 930 part number. My question is, why wouldn't those parts have a 911 starting number?
thanx

Did you do the oil change on a 930 model 911?

They had to come up with some number. Might as well start with 930. I believe it is the same on my Carrera.

Whoa! Sounds like they accidentally put in a 930 Turbo block and fan in your car. Rare, but it happens. Turbo = fast.

But there is no turbo on it. And I don't feel it any faster than another 911 I've driven.

What is the first three letters in your VIN number? It is in the manual and on the sticker by the door latch.

Porsche Crest

The 3.0 normally-aspirated engines [both MFI and CIS] were developed before the Turbo ... 3.2 engines also used 930 cases!

There never was an official '930' model ... just street lingo!

normally-aspitarted engine = non-turbo, non-supercharger engine (atmospheric).

Here is a picture of what used to be my 1987 911 (sold it saturday) It clearly has a 930. part # on the case. Just becasue a part # starts with 930. does not mean it was for a turbo. It is just a part #. If you look at your lower valve covers I bet they have a 930. # on them also.

That can't be a Porsche engine. I don't see any oil leaks.

Correct, the case is shared with the Turbo, as are the connecting rods. Look at the part number on the oil filter, its shared with the 930 as well.
