What a ride. After leaving the Starbucks parking lot last in line, I got caught by a light in Redlands. I watched the car in front of me disappear up the road. That was the last I saw anyone. And, that was OK because I wanted to take a side trip (actually two) while up in the region, which I did down into Seven Oaks and then back to Angeles Oaks for a great breakfast at the cafe.
The bad part going up the hill was I got caught behind 4 school buses and one tanker truck right out of Mentone. The line of cars behind was doing 2nd gear speeds for miles. The tanker pulled over after about 5 miles and the buses got by. Then they had their fun. The dickweeds driving the buses pulled over one by one after playing some sort of grab ass game of passing each other. I guess I deserved what I got after tersely warning everyone about the dangers of pulling off the road into any dry grass or smoking in or out of the car. The whole place is a fire waiting to happen. These roads may be closed July 4th except for local residents. I pretty well know the Glendora region will be closed altogether and maybe for the rest of the summer. As an added end, going home was nothing but stop and go in a black car with no a/c. Needless to say, I'm wringing wet from the high temps. I think I've parked the car for the summer. Chris, thanks for planning this and sticking to it. I'm sure it was better for most. |

Sorta. While I didn't get caught at the light like you, I made it up with everyone else to the lake for the "rest stop". Then everyone decided to go eat lunch. Great. I'll follow! Except that I was following the first guy in line... and he decided to go home. I didn't notice that anything was wrong until we got the the stop sign at the end of the lake where I pulled up and asked if this was the right way to the restaurant. Which was followed by a "oh... I'm not going to lunch. I'm going home". I went back but could not find anyone. I finally ran into one of the guys that was following me, and we had lunch up in Green Lake Valley. The drive was great though! TonyG

This was a great run.
Quite the hike out and back, but I'm very glad I got to meet so many of the regulars here. Video coming tomorrow... |

Whoops! and Thanks!
Had a great trip to Big Bear with ya'll - found out I couldn't keep up with the Ford F-150 going up the hill, nor the Prius going down the hill and on top of that, couldn't find the restaurant for lunch! I've got a lot to learn.
Big thanks to Chris et al for putting the run together!! Thanks, Goosh |

Had a great time!
Nice to meet those that I did and good to see some old faces. There was a similar problem last year about where to meet for lunch. Maybe next time there could be a more discriptive instruction on how to get to the marina, then to the location for lunch. Just my 2 pennies.

But I hear ya! I dont take the top off durring the summer if I plan on being on the freeway. Sounds silly, but not having AC and sitting on an asphalt parkinglot in the direct sun is No fun. It was nice to see you again Milt. Its been a couple of years. Cheers! Toast
