Ignition problems
My 86 911 would not start after sitting for about an hour. After a few attempts and 15 minutes the car started however felt like it was missing slightly as it ran. I stopped again and this time it would not start after many attempts. Towed it home, pulled off the distributor cap and it started! Left it for a few days and took it for a run however it was missing again so returned home however this time it would not start again. I replaced the distributor cap and rotor however it will still not start. I did not check for spark however did check teh Ohms on the coil. Reading between positive and negative screws was .8 Ohms. readings between negative or positive screws and middle lead to distributor is 5600 Ohms. Article in previous forums suggests that this reading should be between 10,000 and 11,000. Is the discrepancy between my coil readings (5600 Ohms) and the suggested reading in the article (10,000 - 11,000) enough to signify a bad coil? My mechanic is 120 miles away and feels that coils seldom go bad. This comment was made prior to me testing the coil this evening. Any thoughts on the coil readings or other things I might check would be very helpful. Car was running 100% up until this incident!

OK lame attempt at humor. I would start by looking for spark (hold a plug against the engine) and fuel ( starting fluid in the intake). Do a search for DME no start threads (there are plenty). |

OK, forgot to mention that I put the distributor cap back on after taking it off. Will check for spark and check for other posts as suggested. Thanks for the help!
