Reupholstery Cost

I got a quote of $250.00 per seat (Front seats and back seats) to reupholster in black "leather like vinyl".

Does that seem reasonable?

Has anyone used East Main Street Upholstery in Grand Prarie, Texas?

I could not find a proper match for the cloth, so I am changing interior to black.

Thanks,

WOW! Was that really a factory option...the plaid?

No offense intended, but I can see why you would want to change it.

That plaid is amazing, don't change it. These are not 2006 997's they are old Porsche and plaid is just luxurious.

To each his own, I guess, and that's cool! It just kinda reminds me of my grandfather's old Buick.

I'm up here in Canada, and my cost was $250.00 Cdn per seat (only did front seats) in a "special" perforated vinyl. It looks amazing, breathes really well, and I thought the cost was excellent. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

As for price....since you're talking US and doing all four, it seems slightly high (based on my experience).

Cheers,
Steve

World Upholstery gets $399 just for the vinyl kit. If the work is good quality, $500 for two seats, installed, seems like a good deal. I'm curious how much they're charging you for labor. It might be worth getting the World kit and have them install it. The World kit is custom made for the car.

Wink

DO NOT recover those in plain black vinyl or leather. Just pick up another set of seats. Standard black seats in nice used condition should be easy to find for around $500 or less......
SAVE THE PLAIDS.

Before you do anything, you might want to give Tony Garcia a call at Autobahn Interiors. He's a sharp guy and might be able to give you some ideas on what to do. In fact, if you take a look at his "gallery," you'll see some seats done in plaid (a different color combination than yours).

My first reaction was that I didn't like the plaid, but it does sorta grow on you after awhile.

+1 for saving the seats and plaid panels. You can always find decent used seats and panels at a decent price, and $250 a seat is a good deal.

it would be a shame to kill those oem's. they're so classic.
i bet you could pick up a pair of used seats and save these.
one day you'll regret it and spend a fortune getting them back to original. my .2 cents

Porsche Crest

Those are the coolest seats I have ever seen. I have been looking for an original 914 with the plaid seats - can't believe you would take them out of that classic 911! Definitely save the seats/panels, get used ones, and put those on Pelican for someone looking to get theirs back to original specs. For the right buys, those could be HUGE!

Save the plaid! Buy new seats and door panels, if you must.

You've got it backwards. That was standard, leather was optional.

However, most USA cars came w/ the leather option.

Please keep the plaid. There'll never be another interior like it! I suggest you buy some cheap seats off ebay or whomever, and get some replacement door panels before covering over the plaid.

Hi Kris;

Do you have any pics of the rear seats?

Also, I have a source for your Porsche plaid, if you're keen on keeping her original.

PM me if you want the details.

Don't lose the plaid - that's awesome and way more distinctive. It probably adds value to the car too because it's less common.
