I called PCNA, I wrote emails, I went to 3 different dealerships-no one could do anything for me. For some, it seems they still had a chance to get one from Porsche, this was not the case for me. My decals don't have the punched info on them, I can live with that.

In the current issue of Excellence there is a (ongoing) story about the restoration of a 914. There is a photo of a replacement door VIN sticker that the owner states PC NA supplied him with.
This restoration has just been completed and it seems odd that he could get a sticker from PC NA and you can't.

Chris, I read the article. That's why i was irritated when PCNA flat out told me NO!

I'm more pissed off at the previous owner for removing the decal in the first place.

I was told the same by two dealers here and then someone from the forum told me to talk with a Greg Green (probably not still there) at the "S" porsche parts place as he was the only one that would make the exra effort to get the decals.

this was before I was getting my parts here on a more regular bases.

That 914 has been finished and on the road for the better part of 2 years. A lot can happen in 2 years...

This is part of what's wrong with Porsche today...too little regard for the enthusiast trying to keep the company's history alive and on the road.

As far as the link to US code on VIN alteration - I'd wager the efforts described here are in the clear, as long as no one is out to "alter" (i.e., change or reassign) a VIN. This is just simple restoration of existing VINs.
