I think f5niac's point is that "Wachen Rot" is completely made up and no German would have the slightest idea what you're talking about. ;)

paint correction!

I am currently working on a full paint correction on original 30 year old paint. What an undertaking!

Impressive. Wish I could do that. I have the Guards Red 911 above and it needs re-doing. After 15 years there are some humidity bubbles on a couple of panels. I was quoted 4.5-5.5K to paint the whole car by a specialist shop that has done quite a few of these. Sounds good value, even though Guards Red was not an original colour on the 68 I believe. This car was originally burgundy.

Guards Red 911s

All three of my cars, the 914, the Boxster and the 911 are Guards Red. Think I like it?
The project 911 is 99% finished, and is ready to drive as soon as the salt is washed off of the roads. Hopefully in a month or so. Spring fever is really bad this year with this car wanting to go for a drive.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1361199405.jpg

I have never considered any other color than RED for my 911s.;)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1361202607.jpg

@White-TT how are you doing the paint restoration? I have a few of those scratches (damn cat slide off the fender).

Thanks

Thanks Mervo. It's really not as difficult as many think but can be VERY time consuming. So far its taken my 6 hours to do the hood and the right front quarter. I suspect I can finish the rest of the car in 12 hours. I typically like to go down to the garage at night for 1-3 hours, have a beer, and listen to music while I do it. It's therapy for me.

If you want to get started, know that typical paint correction costs are $1000+. I bought all my original gear for under 300 dollars new, and like I said it really is therapy, so I don't mind the time it takes. Plus you can correct any scratches you might get later on.

I highly suggest watching this video series: How To for Novice to Machine Polishing - Part 1 - YouTube . He can get a bit over the top at times, but there is no one else that can break it down so simply. I know they are a bit long and tedious, but short of a professional coming to your home-garage to teach you, I don't know of any other way to get such great advice. If you follow the videos, and use similar products, it will be impossible to burn or swirl your paint, and you can correct paint to near perfect condition.

daleflesburg, thanks. I like it a lot. I keep going back and forth on backdating my SC. If I were to keep my SC an Impact Bumper, I would def use Ruf CTR bumpers like yours.

Red Cars

Will:
My problem is that I like them all. One of my sons thought I should have backdated this 74 to a 73 long hood, and the other one thought I should put 930 flairs on it and make an RSR clone, and I was really torn. However I opted for the ruf clone look with SC/Carrera rear flairs. I would like to have a long hood too, but in reality, this is enough.

My 914 is a dedicated DE car, and one day I want to make a street legal 914 again, and have it be unusual too.

Here is a picture of my dash. ( I deleted the heater and the radio and the car weighs 2350. I did put in electric seats out of a 95, but everything else was to try to make it light.
