Engine Value
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what I should expect to pay for an early 80's 911 SC 3.0L motor that needs a full rebuild including studs? It seems like people still want 3-5 thousand for them despite the fact a new rebuild is needed. When I hear that price range it usually includes the injection or carbs as well.
Does anyone have any opinions that might help? Thanks! |

$3k is fair for a tired but running complete motor maybe $4K if it runs well with good leakdown.
If it has internal damage or isn't running I wouldn't even pay that much. A good standard crank is $700-$1,000 alone. Hope that helps. |

A datapoint--I sold mine a few years ago as a core (needing top-end only--bent valves) for $2500 complete, less exhaust (SSIs & sport muffler that I kept for the new motor .)

A lot depends on what P/C's are in there: Alusil or Nikasil.
A rebuild can be anywhere from $ 5-8k. I would look for a running 3.0 with some history.

Good timing for your post. I'm debating parting out a race car vs. selling it whole. Same question was on my mind, do I sell with Weber’s or without.
Which is worth more, good running engine with carbs and headers or engine without carbs and sell carbs by themselves? ![]()
