"Field tested" mine at 146, outside temps mid 90's and don't intend to do so again.... so no photos avail and the last thing I'd think of was pics.
As my favorite mechanic says " it all changes at 120" and that's quite true.

What type of road, time of day/night etc?
Brakes, tires, general condition of your car etc. Solo or?
Just like details before attempting high speed blasts. Everyone's preparation is different.

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity.

I had a stock usa model 82 SC up to 136mph. There is a state trooper in Wyoming that can verify this fact......
BTW.....things come at you very quickly at that speed. Once your brain starts thinking about the $.09 cotter pin "locking" things into place on your front suspension you tend to slow down a bit!!!!
ps my speedo was reading between 137 -139.

Another sobering thing to think about at those speeds is an episode of myth busters. They showed the difference between a 60mph crash and an 80mph crash (something close to those numbers I think anyway) HUGE difference. Like LIFE vs DEATH difference. I feel stupid knowing I had a 30 year old car up to that speed on a public hwy.........

Can you guys post a picture of an sc with the speedo showing 145, or how about video of a bone stock sc showing the speedo at 145. just curious, Kevin
That just doesn't sound smart at all. I'd expect that on a Honda forum, but not a Porsche forum.

It had to be exhilarating at the moment. You lived through it. No regrets. These cars are made for high speed runs and hammering the twisties. Great job. Society riddles us with guilt, keeps us in check.
Cameras these days can be mounted in any position inside or outside of the car. No need to hold it in your hands to take the shot.

I contemplate top speed while out on my bike on empty stretches of road. At 49 years old I am no longer tempted to run it up to crazy speeds. Too many things like, road debris, deer, expansion joint or mechanical failure keep me to somewhat reasonable speeds. There was a time in my youth when I ran my bikes up a lot higher, same with my cars.

In a discussion of top speed I would think you need to discuss tire and wheel size, tire pressure, ambient temperature, wind, altitude, compound of the road and grade on the road. A slight elevation or degradation in the road or a tail wind, head wind or cross breeze would have a significant effect. No?

I operate with a few rules in my life;
If you can't keep up, step aside, don't join the club. Keep your mouth shut if you don't have anything to contribute. Life is too short.

Iciclehead... Nice! That's how you take the "money shot". White knuckles and all. Perfect.

Yeah... Oops. I like driving fast, so I do it. Nice catch.

I remember the early, fast, dangerous years of racing when something like the 917 could be created. Very few rules and the drivers were in the same category as astronauts. Most of them were supermodels, and dated supermodels...their life off the track was exciting... Yachts in Monaco, BMW M1s, Ferraris on the street...
They knew their days were numbered and they lived that way. Pioneers. Floor it.

Good point and like the proverbial fish-story, the bragging gets bigger and more ridiculous.

duh..........any lead-footed idiot can drive fast.........so what?
What skill is involved putting your boot on the gas pedal and play Superman for a few minutes?

Small-minded speed-freaks,......welcome to the club of macho-morons who usually lack size in other areas.

Love the Vancouver to Whistler drive through the gorgeous mountain terrain. Absolutely stunning.
Motorcycle run would be the best way to see it, but seemed wet and tight through there. I can see how you would be scared to drive fast in that area.
Love Neil Pearts book Ghost Rider... Sad and wonderful story of healing.

The autobahn between Munich and Austria was perfect for testing high speeds. Was a little crowded, but German drivers are very skilled. They enjoy their highly engineered automobiles, and keep their highways marble smooth for unlimited speeds. I enjoyed the drive. Gorgeous country.

No knuckleheads in my shot, perfectly safe and exactly as Porsche intended.

My photo was taken by my wife between Munich and Stuttgart, flat and level, no wind, flat out, horsepower limited. 231 km city centre to city centre in 90 minutes including leaving parking lots and getting on to the autobahn.

It is slow minded North American weenies who think that people who like speed and who have the capability to drive at that speed in traffic are lacking in some other dimension.

Why would you do 140 MPH in traffic and think that's ok?

FYI, American roads aren't designed for 140 MPH, hence we do not go that fast.
