101 Projects - Wayne Dempsey

Friends,

Just received Waynes book as a gift (thanks to Greys Castanon my Porsche Brother) and WISHED I had this book when I first got my 911. If I had video taped my first oil change and shared it with my fellow Pelican's all would be crying and laughing hysterically watching the TSUNAMI wave of oil flowing down my driveway.

Thanks Wayne for personally autographing my book . . . it already has some grease on it.

I still remember the day when I bought mine from the man himself when they used to go to the Pomona Swap Meet.

Yup. Found it΄s way all the way to Sweden too. Wayne is the heavy weight champion of Porsche DIY books same way Jack Dempsey was with gloves.

The book has also founds its way to Germany. The only clean page left is probably the one with the autograph. Great way to learn about the car.

will there be a 996 motor conversion project in the Boxster book? Boxsters are going for $10K.

The "101 Projects" book rocks. I wanted the book even before I got a 911. In fact, in a weird way, I used buying the book as a motivational excuse to get a 911!

Porsche should pay Pelican royalties.

Yup, I have both a 997 3.6 and a 996 3.4 - I think we're going with the 3.4 because the ECU conversion is the easiest...

Aloha Mark!
Kamuela boi...cool!
I'm a Kaneohe boi, graduated from Castle also...some time ago!

Sorry guys, back to the subject at hand.

The 101s have come in very handy, and I took my Porsche 101 with me when I went to Arizona to read on the Plane...it was a very good read at that. I'll be reading B.A.'s book on my flight to his Tech training class in Ca. next month. Great books to help pass the time on a plane!

I think I bought my 101 projects 5 years before I bought the car...

Still, I bought Bruce Andersons book when I was 14, so that was 18 years before I bought the car!

I bought the 101 book before I got the 911 and read it cover to cover. I became obsessed with getting one. Thanks Wayne, great book.

Thanks Wayne, looking forward to its release. Reading through Excellence, it seems there are good and then betters years for Boxsters based on suspension, brakes, etc. Hope there will be a grid or something on which year Boxster is the "best" for upgrading.

Woody,

My ultimate Hawaii touring drive would be the Big Island

* Land in Kona and have a 911 waiting to be driven
* Drive from Kona west along the coast to the road that goes up to Parker Ranch (no stoplights for 60+ miles)
* Prior to driving in to Parker Ranch, take a detour North/West up to the town of Kohala (12 miles - twisties and panoramic views climbing up the mountain to Kohala) . . . NO stoplights until you reach town. Take a short break and have some fresh roasted Kona Coffee and enjoy the ocean views.
* Fire up the engine and drive back down and then take the main road up to Parker Ranch/Kamuela for a great steak dinner, wine and local entertainment.
* Next morning fire up the 911 and drive along the Hamakua Coast enroute to Hilo and the Volcano (70 miles).

And the tour continues . . . . ALOHA!

Mark, I totally agree!
Hopefully we can get the Super Ferry running, then get the club here running, and take a nice drive on the Big Island & Maui.
Kona side is starting to get a lot of traffic now...lot of land, but still only one lane. However, they are currently building another lane which will make it a 2 lane hwy.
I've never been to Parker Ranch, but my mother was born there. I'm sure now it's much different from her time, but would be nice to go there.

On topic...with Wayne:
If I'm not mistaken, Wayne was either on Maui or the Big Island on vacation 2 years ago. However, at that time I only had my bimmer.
