GAS TANK REPAIRS. check this site

my gas tank has a big dent and is now causing problems. my tank has no rust so i hated to trash it and not try to fix it. i found this site. $200 to $400 seems pretty good.

if it is car you are restoring you still may consider these guys. they also treat the inside to prevent rust.

click on the link from John. $416.

Can you use a paintless dent removal person to remove the dent? They do miracles with sheet metal. I wonder if pressurizing it a bit could pop out your dent?

Have used the local "Gas Tank Renu" dealer Hagen in Stanton for four different gas tanks now. I think they have a ten year guarantee? Blasted clean and fixed a pinhole in the current 911's tank. Optional exterior coating, not gray but it's a nice touch. Heard lots of horror stories about the DIY tank seal kits, would not recommend that. Gas Tank Renu process is one of the first things I do to a car with any suspected tank issues (rust, dust, crust). With the tank back in shape I can confidently move on with the rest of the fuel system without worries of fouling fuel lines or reversing any carb work. My 2 cents.

One thing that I would offer. I have purchased an aftermarket tank for $400. While it looks like a stock tank, the gage of metal is not the same. The aftermarket tank is much more flimsy.

I kept my original tank and will probably have it reconditioned and put back in the car.

Tanks on 911s originally equipped with CIS fuel injection (such as the '77) contain plastic baffles. Ensure the tank restoration vendor is aware of this; some of the cleaning chemicals used in the restoration process may soften or dissolve the baffles.

used the Renu franchise in Rockville, MD and paid more than $400 ($500 or so as i recall) and my tank was not bad at all, just didn't want to play games with the fuel system after the local radiator shop couldn't get the inside clean enough for my liking. based on what i saw there i paid the Porsche tax.

the finish quality on my tank is sub-par for a Porsche, maybe not so bad for something where the tank isn't front and center when you open the trunk.

overall i was not impressed but don't know of any other viable option.

btw, they are doing a DIY tank refinish, just in a large buidling instead of your garage. there is nothing 'special' about their process.

thanks, there must be some reason one is $400 and the original is $1000.
if i could have mine repaired better than new for $400 i would go that route.

had a plastic baffle in my tank; impression i got was they use a coffee can to replace it. i GUARANTEE they did not buy the porsche part (might be nla anyways).

sorry wayne, im sure it is good for the money and i might buy one if my other option is $1000, unless someone had very good pics of a used one. you know how some people describe "no rust or dents".
also, if your site had listed the aftermarket along with the OEM i might not have searched for tank repairs and found that site.

has anyone ever opened up a tank? i am curious as to how or what could be restricting the fuel when i stop. from what i can see, the filter looks good except for being bent. i tried to move it with a stick but it would not move.
i am going to take the tank out this weekend and pull out the filter from the bottom.

Wayne,

My aftermarket was not from Pelican. Perhaps I should have bought from you guys!
