clocking running slow

I have a 1982 911 SC and the clock has just started to loose time. It looses time at the rate of 50%.
I have also noticed that when the ignition is turned off the clock doesn't work at all.
i would appreciate any input to get this clock up and running again.

I think you are driving too fast. As you approach the speed of light time slows down, I think that is what is happening here. Slow down!...lol


Actually I don't know what is going on with your clock. I wish I could be of more help.

I have a few nice clocks in my home. I was always told to have them cleaned every election year, (every four years as it turns out). Maybe you just need your clock cleaned.

I had the same issue with mine. I purchased a known used good one and bingo. it was half the price of a new one.

I took apart the old one but could not find the issue.

Sorry it is not the fix you were looking for but these clocks have been running since day one so it may have just died. VDO is located in North Holywood, Cali. You can send it to them for reconditioning but kind of far for you

Regarding clocks...

Mine didn't work when I bought my car, I bought a used one and it stopped working in 2 months. Had the original one rebuilt. I think even though they are a "quartz" movement the "works" look like something out of a "Cracker Jack" box. Pretty disappointing for a fine German machinery.

I have an 82 SC and like DRACO purchased a known clock because my orignal clock was intermittent. The original one seemed to slow down or stop when the car was off - it worked just fine when the car was on.

I tried replacing the caps inside the clock but it didn't seem to make a difference. My hunch is that it's the coil in the clock that's bad - this is just my uneducated guess though.

Just replace the clock - it's an easy swap out.

The clock gets its power from fuse 18, 5 amp fuse. The input to the fuse goes directly to the battery. The output goes directly to the clock.
Find fuse 18, remove it and clean the contacts. Check the input side for battery voltage. Could be corrosion at the battery or at the fuse.
The power to this fuse is from one of the separate small red wires attached to the battery.
Likely a poor or corroded connection.

Mine isn't working so well since our big rains here (slow or it stops entirely). I'll probably take Doug's advice and clean out the fuse receptors. Otherwise, how much could a rebuild of this clock cost? I had an old Heuer watch rebuilt, and it cost me almost as much as a new Heuer. I think the 911 clock is very cool - it shows the time large and simply. But I don't want to shell out a whole shovel-load to get it repaired.

They're easy to fix yourself with a Radio Shack low temp soldering iron and low temp solder. Do a search...
