911 Fuchs fitment question
I have a 1985 911 Carrera with the factory 16x7 and 16x8 Fuchs. I am thinking about converting to turbo flares and using 16x8 and 16x9 Fuchs. My questions is this:
Can I just take the 16x8's off the back of my car now and put them on the front? Is the offset and everything the same? Or do I need a DIFFERENT pair of 16x8's if I use them on the front? Thanks in advance,

With turbo flares yes you can use your existing 8x16 Fuchs up front. You could even add a small spacer up front if you want to.

You can use the 951 (944 turbo) 8" wheels on the front and use 9" fuchs in the rear on your current car. They take a little massaging - but they do fit.

Paul-
16" 7's and 8's were not the factory fitment on your car, if you have the original wheels they are 6's and 7's. Post a picture and we can tell you what you have. 16" 8's and 9's will easily fit with turbo flares, and as noted will need to be spaced out to fill the flares. If you're going to all the trouble to add flares I'd have some 17's built, you could likely do 9's and 11's and really put some tire on the ground. As Jeremy noted, 8's and 9's can fit on your stock flares with some work but the 8's need to be the 951 fuchs. You can then do 225/245 rubber. Anyway, let's see what you have now. Here are 8's and 9's on my car, same flares as you have stock. ![]()

Here's what I have now...
Thanks Todd! (And to everyone else!)
Here is a pic of what I have now. Of a couple of pics in case you can't see the wheels clearly. I can take some new ones if I have to... ![]() ![]() ![]()

Nice car Paul. Those are 6's and 7's.
What a lot of guys do is take the 7's and put them on the front and then find a pair of 8's or 9's for the back. The 7's on the front will fit nicely with 205/55's and 245/45's will go on either the 8's or 9's in the back. 8's and 9's look pretty much the same, btw, very beefy in the rear. The 7's on the front can be used with 225/50's but they will likely rub on the fender lips and on the inner wells too. With some fender lip rolling and more negative camber added they can fit but 205/55 is more of a no brainer. Do a search on "Lindsey" to see some custom 17" fuchs that can be made. If you're going wide they really look nice. Here's one more pic of my car, and I bet Jeremy will add a few now that we know you have a cab. ![]()

Okay, thanks. I'm actually not looking to go SUPER wide on tires or anything. I just have always loved the look of the turbo body, particularly without the turbo tail. Particularly on cabriolets. Maybe it stems from the first time I saw a 1989 Speedster...
What were the stock wheel sizes on an actual 3.3L 911 Turbo? That's what I want to use. I know about the Lindsey wheels, and I'm sure they are awesome, but I kinda prefer a modified car that looks... factory. I know that's a contradiction, but I like the look of a car that looks like it COULD have come from the factory. Does that make sense? That's why I want a factory-appearing turbo-bodied cabriolet with no rear wing.

The stock wheels on the turbos were either 7 x 16 and 8 x 16 or 7 x 16 and 9 x 16 (later)
I for one think the lindseys capture the spirit of the fuchs but with more flexability on tire size. with 16" - even 9" you are pretty limited to 245's - wimpy for a car with turbo flares. with the lindseys you can fit a 315/ maybe even a 335 steamrollers on the back. a few 930's with lindseys ![]() and a quote from Brian - one of my favorites...
