Heater Flapper Boxes

I am considering rebuilding/refurbishing the flapper boxes while the engine is out and they are accessible. Has anybody done this and what did you do? At a minimim, I would like to get them blasted & painted with some high temp paint.

Garage
Somewhere there is a thread where a guy soaked them in some rust remover and repainted them. The Results looked great! And the process seems pretty simple/easy.
