The picture - what a great shot!

The top - you know it folds up, right? Grab the middle of the front cross member and the middle of the rear one and pull them towards each other. When you unfold it, make sure the front cross member goes into the clips.

Unless, of course, you were lucky enoiugh to get one with a factory, non-folding top...which was also available and sought out by many due to it's light weight and rigidity. There are also aftermarket tops wich do not fold...which are much less desireable.

Some people can fit an unfolded top between the front and rear seats.
I put all my luggage in the front trunk and my targa top in back on top of the folded down rear seats. It makes putting the top on a little faster.

You would have to find a used one. This thread has photos of a folding top. It is not obvious that it folds if it is in good condition...and they do not fold vey much. You push in at the sides and there are hinges in the front and back.

Nice photos! You are a lucky guy. Your's is certainly the type that does not fold. Lots of guys put them behind the seat. Wish I could find one like that for a price I could afford. The folding type are much easier to find used...and cheaper. I would personally like to have both. You can often find the folding ones for sale here on PP...but those are not cheap...if in good condition.

Nice Car......
I never fold my top just put it standing up in back of the front seats - it fits easily. Mine is an '85but I imagine any year would be the same.

They'll fit in the trunk unfolded if you do NOT have power brakes, I think, but I think last year for that was '74.

Stand it up on the back end on the floor behind the front seats. Precludes passengers in the back though.

Well, there is one more option. If there's no chance of rain, we just leave the top at home. If there's a chance of rain, we take another car.

Nice car.
I had the same model and year, only white with hard top. The top fits in the front trunk, over the carpet, but it is a tight fit with no room for anything else. My top had rub marks on a couple corners where the trunk lid pressed up against it.
I bought mine in 1980 for 17k and a couple months later the chain tensioners went, the following year the clutch. The purchase price is often the easy part......
I did not have a work space or the benefit of Pelicans then, it's much easier now!

Could be another nice find for you, like the targa top. Certain old momo wheels are desireable. (It's like the difference between BBS RA's and BBS RS's in the VW world.)

Here's one thread with some detail.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?t=402849&highlight=flat+prototipo

PS-my son makes "vroom" noises and points at the garage at least once a day. That means it's time to go sit in the 911 together and play with the wheel, shifter, etc.

My owners manual shows the non folding top being stowed in the trunk. '77 was the first year of the brake booster if I'm not mistaken.

In the manual it also looks like there are mounting points in the trunk for the top. Would be cool to see a pic of someone's car that had these.
