slow car or stupor car - based on the CIS fuel injection system
Porsche realized it was nothing like the real Super Carrera versions of the past... |

Yes, like pronouncing the word Porsche, this has been asked many times and speculated on many times. I don't think anyone really knows absolutely for sure. The 356 had a Super Carrera model and Porsche liked to play around with the letters on the various models after that. In '69 thru '73 there were the T E and S models, plus the Carrera RS (one year only with a 2.7 MFI). The S continued on in '74 as a normal car with a 2.7 CIS and the Carrera was a 3.0 MFI car sold ROW (rest of world). In '78 we saw the first SC. Then in '83 or '84 came the 3.2 Carrera that replaced the 3.0 SC and the 3.0 Carrera had long ceased to be.
You're guess is as good an anyone's. BTW, the 356 had a Carrera GS and GT and in '64/65 had a Super in the 356 C series. It's not possible to find a Super Carrera written as such even with the 356's. so my original statement is not really accurate. As I said, your guess.... ![]() It's straight from the Porsche website. Some point out that there were no official documents calling it a Super Carrera until recently, such as this page, and that Porsche sorta "made up" the name after the fact. http://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/classic/world/models/roadvehicles/1978-911/

Excellent! Won has put paid to an endless dispute. SC stands for Super Carrera, whether you like it or not. Thank you!

Yep- Formerly Steve is correct as it started with 911 S , where the S stand for super (actually started with 356's)
. Then in 73 came the RS and if you look at the fan strap on a RS , it says 911 SC. Check out the vin plate on any 74-75 Carrera and the type is 911 SC. so there you are: Super Carrera

Hey guys, thanks for the info, I had heard before that it was Super Carrera,
But didn't really believe it. Looks like there are some strong opinions about the subject. Hope nobody got thier feelings hurt. Thanks, WON for the evidence. As usual, it is all right here on the forum.
