993TT front brakes with 16" Fuchs?

Has anyone heard of grinding a small amount of aluminum off the edges of the 993TT calipers to make them fitting under 16" Fuchs. My very knowledgeable mechanic says he thinks it can be done? Or is this known to be impossible. "No practicle way to fit 993TT brakes under 16" Fuchs"

Thanks Mark

I highly doubt it. The 993TT big red fronts are a MUCH bigger caliper than the standard 993 front caliper, and the 993 caliper barely fits under the 16x7 951 and 16x8 951 Fuchs in the front. I've put the 993 brakes on my car, and corresponded with others who have done the same, to find out what I needed to do just to fit the 993 caliper. The 993 caliper barely clears the inside of the wheel. It's so close that the rubber bleeder screw cap actually rubs on the wheel. That's close! The 993TT caliper is much longer due to the increased diameter of the stock 993TT rotor. The caliper is also much wider.

I believe the only way a 993TT caliper can fit under a 16 in. wheel is to use 3 piece wheels like the BBS Motorsport wheels or the street BBS RS wheels.

If you do a search with 993TT and Bill Verburg username, you should find some pictures that show the side by side comparision between the two calipers. They are very different in size.

Not that I've done it, but I think you're right - because that's exactly what VCI say on this page

Quote:
5/16 -1/2" Wheel spacers and longer wheel studs required on front and rear wheel to clear calipers
Minimum 8" wheels required; 16" modular or 17" required for Red Caliper upgrade
