Here's a better look at some of the details. In the front a carpet kit can be added to give it a finished look and provide a little storage. Out back, there's actually enough room to clear a stock deck lid for the ultimate sleeper.

Man those LS engines really do look good in there. That is really awesome work. I'm with the others in that I have a thing for a porsche 6 in my car, but when done right there is a solid argument for going with an V8.

I have been thinking about a new dream car. A daily driver 911 R built on a budget.
start with a beater 911 shell, as cheap and as torn down as possible. get all the TRE/GTracing 911 R style stuff. final appearance as a less polished version of this: ![]() ![]() ![]() however, here is the reason i put it on this thread, instead of a big $$$ 910 or even S (or RS) spec 911 engine, and the associated reliability issues, drop in: ![]() the honda F20C, in 2L form or 2.2L form... can still even put that little 2L sticker on the back.... i think it would work extremely well in a light weight shell with stock gearing (9k redline, ~240hp)... adds fuel economy, reliability, options for good ac... and the engine is very much in the nature of the old engine, just modernized.... I know it would not sound as nice, but 8000+rpm has its own appeal. i know its not the power of the 8, but its a different character, and more daily driver features.

just to clarify, with the 911 (910 gasp) engine the car is IMO closer to perfection than with the F20C, however knowing that I'm a student for at least 3 more years, and not making 6 digits immediately afterwards, budget of build is a big deal... unless i want to be a 30 old geaser (joke) by the time i can start another build.

Don't laugh, but I have this weird little dream to take an SWB 912 and drop in a fire breathing VW TDI in it (head work, big IC/turbo combo). Won't ever happen, but man would that be fun and get great gas mileage!

this style of build just seems so obvious to me, 9/10ths of the cool/fun factor of an old school 911, but daily drive-able & cheap(er). not sure how daily drive-able a LS3 powered 911 is... lol

what we REALLY need is more hp & torque in a 200 lb. package...
that could take quite a few decades to come about however |

Or simply not wealthy? We all know that there are exotic Porsche motors out there making a LOT of power, but they also cost a LOT of money. A 500 hp Chevy V8 is far less expensive than a 500 hp Porsche motor, and no heavier.

I am preparing to do this conversion to my '78 widebody.
When I added up the cost of getting 750hp out of my '88 930 versus building a 750hp LS1 and dropping it into the '78, the choice was clear. |

I think a 200hp motor and trans in a very light weight 914 could be a blast with clutchless powershifting at red line.
Not sure how to get reverse though. |
