Upgrade Combination Gauge-Early 911
To All:
First I want to say what a fantastic resource this forum is. I want to upgrade my 1973.5 911T to a combination oil pressure and oil temperature gauge (with numbers). I’ve acquired a used gauge, part number 911.641.104.00, which, according to my parts manual, is the correct gauge for my year car. I've been diligently using the search feature here, and other sources, to understand the best way to execute the install, but I'd like some expert confirmation that I've got my brain around this. Here's a view of the current OP and OT senders: ![]() Step 1 would be to replace the existing Oil Pressure Switch with an Oil Line Adapter and Oil Pressure Sending Unit. ![]() As far as I can tell, PN 901-741-551-01 is the correct OPSU for the gauge. Can anyone confirm this, or recommend a source to confirm it ? Also, it seems there are genuine VDO senders, and less expensive aftermarket units. Any opinions on this choice ? As for the Oil Line Adapter, I’m having trouble finding a source, can anyone recommend one ? With the adapter and OPSU installed, I’m assuming I can use the existing wire from the OP Switch to connect the OPSU to the Gauge. Do I need to change the Temperature sensor? Since the gauge is the right part number for a 1973, I would think the Oil Temp sensor that’s currently in the car would be correct for the gauge. The parts manual only shows one part number for the Oil Temp sensor. Installing the gauge itself seems like the easiest part. Connect the wires from the Pressure and Temperature sensors to the connectors marked “G” on the gauge, hot lead to the “+” connectors, ground to ground, and put the three lights (illumination, generator, and brake warning light) in their respective sockets. Oil pressure senders that have a signal for pressure and low pressure warning is a dual pin single unit. You will need to run another wire to the back of the new gauge and match it to the gauge.

I think you need a shorter oil line if you put the Al block in there.

This is what I did on my 72T. I don't have the oil fed tensioners though.
