What I found in a scrap yard??

I have always had a interest to own a early 911 ,though have never realy had the spare cash to go out a buy one ... anyway 8 weeks ago a shape caught my eye in the back of a scrappy ... It looked like a prorky so I wondered over to have a closer look ... Yes it was a porky ... yes it was a pre-impact bumper model ..... yes it looked a complete mess ... it looked like it had been raped for all the expensive bits (no engine ,no wheels ,no glass.
so anyway went over to the owner to have a chat and asked what the deal was with the orange mess in the corner ,his reply was make us an offer .
Well we identified there was no paper work nor history .I went away with the vin number to do some checks and sleep on it .
That same afternoon I carried out a Vin check with HPI it came back as a 71" 2.2 911 with 3 previous owners ,there was nothing dodgy about the wreak.
Now how much should I pay ?
The next dat I went back to the scrappy ,the owner said before we start I have put it on ebay and if i was interested to have a bid.
Dam dam dam dam . I went away to watch it on screen get to about £800 in 2days . This car was going to go for a silly money ,I took another trip down to the scrappy and waved £1700 in front of him .... he sorta hesitated then took it .
Wooow I now own one .... might be a heap but I own one ....
As agreed it was to be delivered the following week , so preparation started I welded us a dolly cleared space in the garage .. and waited.

It arrived thankfully his highabb was working , he placed it straight on my dolly . I sat back and started to think what a mistake ......

The rip out starts ......

Might very well be a mistake. If it's a rust bucket, you may want to get it back on ebay and see if that crazy money is still available. Meanwhile, examine the car and take lots o' pics so we can see.

I'm I reading this correctly? You paid £1700/$2500 US for a car with

A. No engine
B. No tranny
C. No history/paperwork
D. No wheels
E. No glass
F. No inspection to determine rust situation

You're a brave man, that's for sure! Good luck, and please post pictures when you can.

I tried searching eBay.co.uk. I thought there was a way to look at 'recently sold' items, but no dice. It's 11pm in the UK right now, hopefully Brislane will post some pics tomorrow!

Don't bother trying to do a pounds->dollars conversion, everything in the UK is priced like you were reading in US $, but paying in pounds. So his 1700 pound car is exactly like finding a 1700$ dollar car in the US. Of course it will also cost pounds for dollars to buy all the parts to fix it as well, so if it would cost $25000.0o US it will cost 25000 pounds.

Pretty much explains why so many US cars go over to England, and so few go the other way, even when the dollar is strong.

I don't want to make this into a currency thread but that might work in Canada because the C$ and the US$ move together for the most part. It's a bit of a stretch for the pounds -> dollars. Maybe that's why they all drive on the wrong side of the road!

I went thru the same drill, $2500 for a clunker? When are getting the pictures?
