clutch adjustment

Help, 1976 911 S, trying to adjust clutch cable, using maintance manuel, I have the straight arm , cable attaches here and runs thru the support hole on transmisson housing. I adjust cable to gei 1 inch free pedal, start engine and grinds going to reverse, book says to tighten cable to relief grind, as I do, grinding still exsists, until I run out of pedal free play. I have plenty of thread on cable end, so no need to forward to go to pedal cluster, what to do, please help

Sounds like your cable is breaking, or you have an internal problem, such as a leaking main shaft seal allowing trans oil to contaminate your clutch disc, or you might have a throw out bearing release fork breaking.

The 76 is suposed to have the arm that turns 90 degrees so you might have the wrong cable for the arm youre using.
If like Pete says you might be breaking the cable be sure you match the cable to the arm you are going to use.
In your case it would be a 74 with out a cross over pipe of the 75/76
